Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Manhas come out swinging from Marvel Animation, much to everyone’s surprise. Fans were, initially, less than charmed by the art style and the animation of the show. However, with the release of its first two episodes on Disney+, it seems to have won audiences over with its wit and comedy.

The show might not be set in the MCU as we know it, but has a lot of similarities to what fans have seen in the sacred timeline. While some things might be different in the show, there are plenty of nostalgic references to Spider-Man’s early days in the MCU.
Iron Man has been referenced twice inYour Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man
There are two key references to Iron Man in the show, one for each episode that it released. In Episode 1, we see Peter Parker running late for school. When Aunt May offers him a ride, we see that her car has an Iron Man air freshener, confirming that he exists in this universe as a popular superhero.

Next, in Episode 2, Norman Osborn appears to give Peter a chance to work in his organization. When pointing out Peter’s immaculate academic career, one certificate sticks out more than the others. This is a certificate of excellence, awarded to Peter by the STARK Jr. Science Fair, which makes it the case that Peter was in the eyes of Tony Stark, if not Stark Enterprises at least.
It has been almost a decade since Tony Stark first recruited Spider-Man inCivil War, way back in 2016. For Peter in the MCU, it has been quite some time without Iron Man as well. To have the character once again in such close proximity, without even interacting, is bound to be a little nostalgic, giving audiences a warm, fuzzy feeling about Peter’s early days in the MCU.

Why did Tony Stark not recruit Spider-Man yet?
Despite all the nostalgia that the show has managed to deliver, one question still sticks out to fans: Why hasn’t Tony Stark come for Peter Parker in this reality? There are a lot of things different about the universe, such as the presence of more heroes.

Doctor Strange was just finding his footing when theCivil Warbroke out, but given that this version of Strange uses the Eye of Agomotto to fix things so freely, it is possible that Doctor Strange has had more experience in this universe. Further, there seem to be a lot more superheroes in the MCU, even potential heroes and villains like Amadeus Cho and Doctor Connors, who seem to be absent from the mainline MCU.
The existence of so many heroes may have made the work of the Avengers easier, causing far less destruction, which would make the point of the Sokovia Accords moot. It could also simply be the case that Peter has been nabbed by Osborn before Stark has had a chance to vet him for the Avengers.
