From engaging in an X pat with Lil Nas X to calling out Drake, Baby Storme has been making waves all week and has recently labeled herself as an ex-best friend to Ice Spice. In her recent series of tweets, she took shots at Nicki Minaj after leaking an alleged exchange between her and Spice.
The alleged texts from Spice branded Minaj as ungrateful and delusional, claiming that she invited Minaj to collaborate on the title track for Greta Gerwig’sBarbie. But according to the producers of theBarbiealbum, this doesn’t seem to be the case.
Nicki Minaj Was the First Artist Approached by Greta Gerwig
In thealleged exchange, the New York artist claimed thatNicki Minajattempted to take hold of most of Spice’s publishing rights over the song. Furthermore, the texts claimed that theBarbieproducers initially wanted thePrincess Dianarapper alone to performBarbie World, stressing that it wasIce Spicewho invited Minaj to collaborate on the title track.

But Kevin Weaver, one of the producers of theBarbiealbum, stated otherwise. Speaking toThe Hollywood Reporter, Weaver recalled they wanted to incorporate Minaj from the get-go for their spin onBarbie Girl. This prompted him and his collaborators on the album to urgeGreta Gerwigto write a letter to theBang Bangrapper, leading to the filmmaker writing a beautiful note to Nicki.
He recalled:
“We went to Greta and asked Greta if she would write a letter to Nicki, and Greta wrote this beautiful note to Nicki and basically said like, ‘You are Queen Barb and when I set out to make this film, as I was thinking of artists, you were the first artist that really came to me as somebody that I felt was going to be an important collaborator and contributor to this,’”
The very next morning, after the letter made its way to the Trinidadian rapper, she hit them back, stating“she was 100 percent in,”andBarbie Worldended up debuting atNo. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Appearing atBarbie‘s premiere, Nicki Minaj expressed that she was grateful to be a part of the film, which went on to become the biggest release of 2023. Furthermore, considering thePink Friday Girlssinger has channeled the doll throughout her career and refers to her fans as“Barbz,”working on the Gerwig-led project film was a“very full circle moment”.
She toldEntertainment Tonight:
“I’ve been saying Barbie my whole career. So it’s a very full circle moment.”
