Epic Games’ brought LEGO-themed crafting survival mode toFortniteback in December 2023, along with other gameFortniteFestival and Rocket Racing modes, and it has been a major hit among the community. The mode recorded a higher player count than the battle royale in just days of its release.
Fortniteis now bringing more LEGO content to the game as part of its ongoing collaboration with the brand, and it will allow players to create their own Lego islands. This has sparked discussion among the fans about the content and where the game is headed.
Fortnite Fans React to New Lego Islands Announcement
tDuring the State of Unreal 2024 livestream at the GDC, Epic Games announced that it is bringing a set of tools and other items for Unreal Editor forFortnitethat will allow players to create their own islands. It also released a set of rules calledBrand and Creator Rulesthat mentioned dos and don’ts for players who will be using LEGO assets to create islands.

In those sets of rules, it was revealed that the monetization for LEGO-themed islands is different fromFortniteislands. Epic Games said that creators are only allowed to use LEGO assets and features that are approved and can be accessed via designated templates.

The next monetization rule is more important, which reads,“In exchange for creating LEGO Islands, you agree to share 15% of your total island payout with The LEGO Group.”This means that whatever creators earn with their islands, they will have to pay 15% to LEGO. Moreover, this will be deducted by Epic itself from the creator’s“engagement payout”and distributed to LEGO.

Players will have to agree to this when they sign the IP partner licensing agreement to be able to create the islands. Fans have reacted to this, saying that this was bound to happen and is only fair because LEGO is allowing players to use its assets and animations, so it should get some of the payouts.

New Lego Islands Are Available in Fortnite Now
LEGO has already brought two islands, Lego Raft Survival, and Lego Obby, to the game and has added three new ones with the announcement at the GDC 2024. The newly added islands are Lego Prop Hunt, Lego Battle Arena, and Lego Cat Island Adventure.
The Lego Battle Arena will allow players to meet Spinjitzu masters and learn martial arts at the LEGO Ninjago Dojo. Players will also be able to compete against other trainees at the dojo. Players can meet and befriend a cat on an island and complete various objectives in the Cat Island Adventure.
