It’s about to get a whole lot easier to use theDiscordvoice chat feature onXboxconsoles, as Microsoft confirms a new update will soon remove the need for a mobile device when connecting to calls.

Discord voice chat began rolling out on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S early last month. Despite Discord being previously available on the consoles, the most commonly used feature, voice chat, was not available to users. After the feature was finally made available to users, it quickly became apparent that actually using it was a little trickier than it needed to be.

Users currently need to connect their Discord account to the Xbox mobile app on their phones to use the voice chat functionality on consoles. The user must first join the call via a mobile or desktop device and then transfer the call onto their Xbox console, but this will soon be a thing of the past thanks to an upcoming update.

The update is currently available to Xbox insiders and will be rolled out to all users worldwide at a later date. Thepatch notes on the official Xbox websitestate that the update includes a Discord server and voice channel browser when clicking the Discord button in the guide under parties and chats. This will allow users with linked accounts to join a voice channel directly from their console.

Xbox does note that “users who do not have their Discord and Xbox account linked already will be directed to link their accounts after clicking the Discord button”. If you plan on joining a direct call, you will still need to use the mobile apps to do so.

Unfortunately, if you’re on aPlayStation4 or PlayStation 5, the Discord voiced chat feature still isn’t available to players. However, aprevious reportsuggested that the feature would be rolling out in the coming months, with March reportedly being the possible date for the feature to be integrated.
