Tadanobu Asano perfectly captured one of the antagonistic characters inShōgun. His character Kashigi Yabushige is a brilliant and charismatic yet brutal lord who has his own agendas in the series. After winning the Golden Globe for the role, Asano introduced himself to the stars present at the Beverly Hilton Hotel and the viewers watching from home. He also mentioned how big of an achievement it was for him as an actor. Asano shared in his speech (via People):
Wow, maybe you don’t know me. I’m an actor from Japan and my name is Tadanobu Asano. This is a very big present for me! I’m very happy. Thank you!

He was also nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Emmy but lost it to Billy Crudup. In the Emmys, the show set a record when it was nominated in 25 categories and won 18.
