While playingDragon’s Dogma 2, I figured I would get pretty attached to some of the NPCs and characters I met along the way. I’ve always loved RPGs because they allow me to step into someone else’s shoes and see life through a different lens. In Dragon’s Dogma 2, I was able to be a tough woman whose sole purpose in life was to hunt down the dragon who stole her heart. Pretty cool, right?
Exploring the city of Vernworth in Vermund, I ran across the Rose Château Bordelrie, which very quickly turned me away fornot having membership. I was a little shocked since I could easily waltz into the castle but couldn’t walk into the building there. I figured I would run back into the place at some point, and when I did, I had no idea that this little location would hold the most frustrating part of Dragon’s Dogma 2 for me.

Every Rose Has Its Thorns
When I finally made it inside the Rose Château Bordelrie, I knew that Wilhelmina was going to bea romance option. There was absolutely no doubt in my mind that I would be able to romance her if I chose to. She actually became one of my favorite characters pretty quickly.
After all, who doesn’t love a girl boss who knows exactly what she wants in life and isn’t afraid to chase after that? I got really invested in her story. I wanted to learn how she ended up at the Rose Château Bordelrie, rose to the top rank in the Bordelrie, and became someone the nobles trusted with their secrets. How did she become the woman that she is, and what went into obtaining that status?

However, Ineverexpected that I would be forced to romance her if I wanted to obtain the answers to those questions, and I certainly didn’t expect her to dropthe biggest bombshell she could beforefleeing into the night, neverto be seen again.

Now, going into Wilhelmina’s story, I probably should’ve seen the writing on the wall. Her quest, entitled “Every Rose Has Its Thorns,” gave me every indication that I needed. Anyone who has heard that idiom knows that it means that there is rarely something so good that doesn’t come with some sort of negative aspect, and apparently Wilhelmina’s negative aspect is that she loves to run. Realistically, I should’ve seen it coming, but truthfully, I didn’t.
You’re A What?
During Wilhelmina’s quest, I was all for helping her. I didn’t care what she asked me to do, I would jump through any hoop that allowed me to learn more about her. She was an extremely well-written character that had a lot of potential. I figured that whatever her goal was, it had to be something massive, something worth reinventing yourself and becoming one of the most powerful women in Vernworth to obtain. I wasn’t sure what I thought the truth about Wilhelmina was, but I didn’t expect it to be what it was.
After I obtained everything Wilhelmina needed to frame Allard, I was so excited to hear the truth. She had mentioned earlier in the game that the reason she came to Vernworth was to kill Allard. Everything she did was to get close to the man, but why? I knew that her story would only go up from here, so I rushed to help her set her plan in motion. I told her that I would hold Allard down while she did what needed to be done.

I was as confused as Allard was. How could someone be part human and part beastren?
While Wilhelmina was speaking to Allard, I was trying to piece together the pieces of her story. She mentioned that her father was the merchant Allard killed and then that her mother was the beastren he killed. Suddenly, I was as confused as Allard was. How could someone be part human and part beastren?
I playedDragon’s Dogmaback in 2012, so I tried to replay the events of the game to see if I could remember any characters like that in the original game, and my mind came up blank. (AlthoughmaybeI missed one? It was over a decade ago.) I couldn’t figure out what that meant for her, how it worked out, or if she was the only hybrid in the entire universe.
Once Allard was taken care of, Wilhelmina told me to meet her back at the Rose Château Bordelrie the next day to chat. I was so excited because I justknewshe had to explain to me what she meant by her mother was a beastren and her father was a human. I was ready to hear the story and help this boss of a woman out with her next steps in completing her life goals. However, what came next made me upset.
A Game Of Cat & Mouse
I showed up the next day with my bucket of popcorn ready for Wilhelmina to spill all the details. I thought I was about to get a rundown of how she was born, what it meant, and what Allard did to her family. Instead, Wilhelmina and my Arisen have a romance scene, and then she leaves. She just left.I got absolutely no explanation, no details, and no closure. My mouth was on the floor when I realized she doesn’t come back. In fact, I scoured the internet, looking for clues as to where she might have gone.
Thank you for contacting Capcom EU Technical Support. Kindly note that this is by gameplay design, after finishing the quest to romance with Wilhelmina, she leaves and there is no other interaction with her after this.
Some posts onRedditsuggest that she can be found somewhere in the wilderness at a campsite, others say she is at the Hot Springs on the Volcanic Island, some were able to see her atthe end of the game, and then she has also reportedly been inthe Unmoored World. However, one Redditor (u/D0CH0LLID4Y) claims that after reporting Wilhelmina’s absence as a bug,Capcom support told them, “Thank you for contacting Capcom EU Technical Support. Kindly note that this is by gameplay design, after finishing the quest to romance with Wilhelmina, she leaves and there is no other interaction with her after this.”
No matter where Wilhelmina ends up, whether she is traveling the world or hanging out at the Hot Springs, one thing is for sure: she deserves more. Wilhelmina’s story needs an ending rather than a cliffhanger. She losteverythingto Allard, absolutely everything. She doesn’t just deserve her story told because she is an interesting case of a beastren and a human having a child; she is so much more than that. She deserves her story told for every woman who has ever had to restart their life.
