In particular, Galar has been the least explored region in the game, despite being released almost five years ago.
Given thatPokemon SwordandShieldwas released in 2019, it’s surprising that we have seen so little of the region inPokemon Go.Even Paldea, which debuted in 2022, has had more entries in the game.
Galar is Still Unexplored in Pokemon Go
Considering that every Gen has had significant representation inPokemon Go,except Gen Eight, leaves a lingering thought as to why that is the case. New Pokemon are released regularly in the game, whether from a newer or older generation, and fans have demanded periodically to focus more on Gen 8.

A Reddit user has asked the same question from Niantic, asking why they have “abandoned” the Galar region, given it could provide so much fresh content. While many users shared the same sentiment, some shared interesting reasons as to why this could be the case.
One user pointed out thatDynamax/Gigantamax is a whole different phenomenonfrom what we have so far in the game, so Niantic could be working slowly to introduce the feature.
It’s worth pointing out that the Galar region was introduced just before the Pandemic outbreak started to happen, which eventually restricted players from playingPokemon Goas home quarantine became mandatory. Hence, Niantic might have held back on releasing Galar content as it wouldn’t make any difference in increasing the game’s player base.

Niantic has been working behind the scenes, and a plan has been laid out for at least the next ten years.
