Who Are The Time Variance Authority?

The Time Variance Authority, often referred to as TVA, is an organization that oversees all of the various timelines that consists within the Marvel universe.

In short, things get really confusing when there are multiverses and Dr Strange peeking into millions of different realities, so the TVA was created to oversee the multiverse and keep everything in order.

In one of the many timelines, the TVA took Loki into custody after the battle of New York which took place in the very first Avengers film. It’s likely that the newLokiTV Show takes place within that timeline and fills in some of the blanks.

The Time Variance Authority first appeared in the Marvel comic books way back in 1986 in Thor Vol #1. Their sole purpose is to monitor the multiverse and cut off certain timelines if they are deemed too dangerous to exist.

InLoki, it looks like the TVA are turning to Loki for help after the famous villain broke reality when using the tesseract. When Loki asks Mobius, played by Owen Wilson, why he needs his help specifically, Mobius states it’s for his “unique Loki perspective”.
