OnKentaro Miura‘s passing, Morikawa shared this sketch and spoke about a cherished memory he shared with the late mangaka. He spoke (viatranslationson Reddit) about a time when he had just started working onHajime no Ippo. Morikawa knew Miura beforeBerserkwas even published. Apparently, Miura worked briefly onHajime no Ippo.
At my first weekly magazine job, we had zero staff and he came to help me out. He was 18 and I was 19. He was a student at my University’s art club who came by after a lecture with sketchbook in hand. I didn’t know how well he could draw, so I showed him some of own art and asked him to copy it. I was stunned by the results. His age utterly belied his talent.
