Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslavhas recently teased the possibility of an upcomingSupermangame in a recent Q1'23 earnings call (via Tweaktown), and apparently, his vision is to make it in the same vein asHogwarts Legacy, as he was inspired by the latter’s success.
This news comes on the heels of today’s announcement that Hogwarts Legacy has surpassed $1 billion in retail sales, with over 15 million units sold worldwide to date (this was also mentioned by Zaslavhas during the earnings call, andlater transcribed by VGC).

Given this success, Zaslavhas believes that Warner Bros. could reach a similar milestone with its other IPs. Not only does the company own 11 different studios (Avalanche Software, Hogwarts Legacy’s developer being one of them), but it also has complete control over the IPs it owns. For Zaslavhas, this is the company’s greatest strength, as it allows the company to be flexible in what games it develops and how it develops them alongside other multimedia products such as TV shows and movies, or any other ongoing projects.
“If you look at Hogwarts Legacy, a big piece of the success of that game is that you go into it. If you’re a player, you go into that game and you’re in that world. That’s kind of a new concept,” said David Zaslavhas in the recent earnings call, and followed it up with what his vision is for following up on that success with the Superman IP: “It may be in the next couple of years that we launch a Superman movie and…people spend more time and there’s more economics of people just hanging out in the Superman world and universe,” he concluded.
The key takeaway from the CEO’s statement is that he doesn’t want it to be just any Superman game, but a game that’s tied to the upcoming Superman movie (Superman Legacy, directed by James Gunn), and one that allows players to immerse themselves in Superman’s world and universe in the same way that Hogwarts Legacy did for lovers of the Harry Potter world.
The CEO also listed that he can do the same with other IPs that WB owns, likeGame of Thrones, or basically anything in the DC universe. His words may also be a nod to the fact that DC’s biggest competitor, Marvel, is currently owned byDisney, which has a say in what Marvel can and can’t do with its IPs at present.
