There is an epic story behind the addition of Andrey Kvasov’s pilot character toWar Robots.

War Robotsis a free-to-play multiplayer mecha-battle game on PC and mobile that you may not have heard about so far. Even if you have, we are going to talk about the studio, Pixonic, that developed it rather than the game itself.

Recently, a heart-blessing story has come out of Pixonic, the Russian studio behindWar Robots, which proves that a workplace can bind people together for more than just revenue achievements.

A Valuable Gift from All War Robots Players to One of the Developers

In November 2019, Andrey Kvasov, an IT support working for Pixonic, experienced severe damage from a bus crash in the Dominican Republic when he was on a vacation. Despite surviving the accident, Andrey lost his left arm and fingers of his right hand.

That being said, it took Andrey only four months to get back to work, which was when he was offered to become a playable character inWar Robotsas a pilot with a prosthetic arm, with his own name, and an epic backstory.

Andrey gladly accepted the offer and the character was added to the game in Summer 2021 as a part of the game’s Battle Pass.

It was only a few months later after the addition of the character toWar Robotsthat Andrey found out his co-workers at Pixonic had actually collected all the money earned from his character’s sale to buy a prosthetic arm for him.

“This came as a complete and pleasant surprise to me,” Andrey wrote in his recent post atPikabu. “The players also found out that the story was real, after the fact. Each pilot owner received a free buff and a notification that the money invested in this activity went towards buying a prosthesis for a real person. The players were very welcoming of the news and I received a lot of kind words.”

“Now I live an ordinary life. I go to the gym twice a week and do karate once a week (the lack of an arm doesn’t prevent me from spinning). I work, I play games. By the way, there are enough devices on the market today that give a full gaming experience even to people who can’t play like most people.”

This is by far the best feel-good story of the recent months that we have probably heard in the gaming industry, and I really wish we get to see more of such incredible workplaces everywhere.
