After removing Split from the Competitive map pool, now Riot Games is thinking of reworking Fracture, another Competitive map that usually favors attackers rather than defenders.
Maps & Modes Design Lead Joe Lansford recently revealed in a briefTikTokvideo that he and his team are working at Riot Games to bring some quality-of-life changes and improvements to Fracture, which will make it easier for defenders to stop multiple attacking scenarios.
Currently, there is no official release date for the Fracture rework, but it is expected to be revealed soon and become available in future game updates. Of course, you can expect it to arrive sometime after the upcoming Champions esports event later this month.
Fracture and Bind are two competitive maps in Valorant with unique transportations, which make them stand out from the other maps in the game. Fracture is probably the only map in Valorant that doesn’t feature a huge “Middle” area due to long ziplines that connect two different sides of the map.
While those zip lines are already Fracture’s icons, they make it much harder for the defenders to flank or change position. However, you can still shoot while on a zipline, it is much harder to hit a stationary target who awaits your arrival on the other end.
It’s yet to be seen whether Riot Games will attempt to remove the ziplines from Fracture completely or will still try to keep the iconic feature of the map, but the developers surely need to figure out an effective way for defenders to make their transportation without too much risk.
Recently, Riot Games added Pearl as a new map to the game and the Competitive map pool. As a two-bomb-site map, Pearl feels much more balanced. Also, the developers have not revealed any plans for Split after its removal from the Competitive map pool.
Currently, Ascent is one of the least favorite Competitive maps, and Valorant players really hope to hear something new about the map from the developers in the near future. Probably, Ascent could be one of the top candidates to get removed from the Competitive map pool if any new map arrives in the future.
