X-Men ’97took the world by storm with its debut, smashing together a slew of X-Men stories and delivering a first season that fans can’t help but watch again and again. However, the supposed engineer behind the show, Beau DeMayo, has found himself fired from the job, and there also seems to be some restructuring going on the part of Disney to make the show less in line with what DeMayo had in mind.

Perhaps owing to this, a report has pegged the premiere date of the sophomore season of the show in 2026, which indicates that Marvel fans will be without any sort of proper X-Men content for the better part of a year and a half.
X-Men ’97will be heading into some pretty intense storylines in it’s Season 2
X-Men ’97Season 2 will be building on a lot that was set up forX-Men ’97Season 1, such as Apocalypse. Fans might also see Remy Le Bou return as Death, one of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse after his sad demise at the hands of Bastion on Genosha.

The long wait that stands between now and the premiere of Season 2, as reported byNexus Point News, could be a little too long for fans, but has become the norm for shows that have made their homes on streaming services. Be it other animated superhero hits likeInvincible, or shows that have received critical acclaim likeStranger Things, they usually take a long time to produce and put on screen. While it might have been a norm in the times of cable TV for there to be barely a year’s worth of gap between a set of 22 or episodes that aired weekly, streaming might have made that history, all on its own.
X-Men ’97is uniquely positioned to take advantage of the new stories from the comics
X-Men ’97is a continuation of the X-Men saga from the 1992 animated series. After the show was canceled, there were a slew of new X-Men stories that were told, along with a host of new characters that were absent, or not as popular when the show initially started airing. Be It Daken, X-23, or the Chimeras made by Mister Sinister,X-Men ’97can bring these characters into their timeline, allowing them to exist in more classic stories likeHouse of M,Age of Apocalypseor even versions ofDays of Future Past.

Further, they could also adapt newer storylines likeBattle of the Atom,A.X.E,Endangered Species, and all the other stories that follow individual characters. Logan in particular, given that he has lost his adamantium skeleton now, can have his personal storyline if he does not become his bestial self, as was the case in the comics.
X-Men ’97can be streamed on Disney+
