EA Sports UFC 5 Review: A KO You’ve Seen Before
EA Sports UFC moves to a brand-new engine with UFC 5, but after a three-year wait, is that all there is to look forward to?
Bryce Mitchell, who is arguably the biggest addition out of the three fighters, is ranked number 10 in the UFC’s featherweight division. Similar to Pyfer, Mitchell will have an overall rating of 4/5 stars with 94 rated takedowns, 96 top game, and 94 submission offense, making him a highly rated grappler in the division.

Finally, we have Maycee Barber, who joins UFC 5 as a women’s flyweight where she is ranked number 6. Barber once again has an overall rating of 4/5 stars and a 93 rated punch speed, 93 punch power, and 94 ground striking.
UFC 5 Implements New Balance Adjustments
There are plenty of bug fixes, balance adjustments, and quality-of-life improvements in today’s UFC 5 update, with some significant changes to striking and grappling.
EA has confirmed that it will be increasing the short-term stamina cost of blocked, missed, and evaded strikes. This means that anytime you throw a strike (whether that be a punch, kick, knee, or elbow) and your opponent blocks or evades the strike, you will lose more stamina than previously. There have also been some minor adjustments to the long-term stamina cost, but EA says that “its ratio stays the same.”

Another major improvement comes to the game’s ground-and-pound striking, which has been incredibly overpowered. Now, however, the EA gods have blessed us and finally fixed strike-tracking when on the ground. Gone are the days of no longer being able to move your head and evade strikes from the bottom position.
Other striking changes include:
When it comes to grappling, EA says it has “improved the AI’s use of the Struggle in Submissions on higher difficulty levels.” Now, when fighting offline against an AI opponent on a higher difficulty, they should use the struggle mechanic more effectively. There has also been a fix for an apparent camera issue on late denials against pulling guard, and an increase in the differences in submission tactics between different fighting styles.
Other miscellaneous improvements include a fix for the lightweight fighter Bobby Green’s stance, XP changes for online career mode, a fix for visual glitches in the store tab, and much more. For a full breakdown of today’s update, check out the patch notes on theEA website.
