Ubisoft does have a studio with serious virtual reality chops. Red Storm Entertainment has already releasedWerewolves WithinandStar Trek: Bridge Crewon the platform. So, if anyone in Ubisoft’suniverseshould bring two AAA properties to Quest, it’s them. Outside of knowing which studios are helping them and what the properties are, we don’t know much else.
At Facebook Connect, Elizabeth Loverso, the Vice President of Product Development at Red Storm, did say that we can expect these games to deliver new experiences while also keeping the core of the franchise intact.
From my perspective,Splinter Cellseems like the easier transition. I mean, we’ve seen solid shooting games in VR before, but I can’t wait to see how they handle movement in a stealth game.Assassin’s Creedseems like the tougher task. Hopefully, we get more of a traditional game than just an “experience” akin to thatBatman: Arkhamthing. Either way, it doesn’t sound like we’ll see those games before next year. Both sounded relatively early in development, though Ubisoft could certainly surprise us.
While you wait to hear more, there are plenty of games to play on your brand new Oculus Quest 2. The new system launches on October 13, and today’s event proved that you’ll have plenty to play.
