For the first time in nearly a decade, a studio other than EA is working on aStar Warsgame. Disney’s Lucasfilm Games is partnering with Ubisoft to develop a new game set in theStar Warsuniverse. The announcement was made in anarticle from Wiredand revealed that the game is currently in development at Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment, the studio behindThe Divisionfranchise.

The yet-unnamedStar Warstitle will be open-world and story-focused. Following the lead of EA’sStar Warstitles, this upcoming game’s story will be included in theStar Warscanon. Ubisoft and Lucasarts did not reveal any other details on the new title, including a release date or what platforms the game will eventually release on. However, it was revealed that the game would run on Massive’s Snowdrop engine. Massive’s Julian Gerighty was also revealed to be the game’s creative director. Gerighty was also a director forThe Division 2, as well as a producer for two earlySplinter Celltitles,Chaos TheoryandPandora Tomorrow.

Star Warsgames have been exclusively developed by EA since a deal was signed with the company and Disney back in 2013. In the time since, that deal has led to the development of multiple hitStar Warstitles, includingJedi: Fallen Order,Star Wars: Battlefront 2, andStar Wars: Squadrons. It’s not clear whether that deal will end early, or if the upcomingStar Warstitle from Ubisoft will release after 2023.

Lucasfilm Games is also working on another title: anewIndiana Jonesgame. Bethesda’s Machine Games is spearheading this project, with assistance from Lucasarts Games. Bethesda will publish the upcomingIndiana Jonestitle, with Todd Howard filling the role of executive producer.

These two announcements arrived just days after Lucasfilm revealed thatLucasfilm Gameswould be the brand name for any futureStar Warstitles.
