The 2024 PlayStation State of Play Showcase was broadcast on June 05, 2025. Most fans considered the entire showcase lukewarm. The showcase lineup featured 14 titles, includingGod of War Ragnarok. The title is not getting new content; it is getting a port on PC instead.

However, apart from this repeated title, fans are questioning other choices Sony made with their lineup. The showcase had not one but two live-serviceOverwatchStyle PvP shooters. Given how redundant that is, it seems like the studio is running short on novel ideas.
Hero Shooters Seem Like the Latest Fad as Sony Reveals Marvel Rivals and Concord at 2024’s State of Play
PlayStation’s 2024 showcase didn’t have anything fromBloodborneorGhost of Tsushima; perhaps the two titles gamers most looked forward to. Not to mention, any news on them would have made up for the fact that no significant exclusives are coming for the PS5 in 2024.
Not God of War Ragnarok or Concord, PlayStation’s State of Play Breakout Winner is Undoubtedly Ballad of Antara
Also, Sony chose to open the showcase with a live-service PVP shooter, which seemed incredibly close toOverwatch,Concord. Given how the community feels about live-service titles, barring a few exceptions likeHelldivers 2, it was certainly not the best way to build hype for upcoming titles.
But the misfortune for gamers didn’t end there asMarvel Rivals, another hero shooter, was also revealed at the showcase. While it isn’t inherently wrong to feature both of them, one can certainly notice that it had a detrimental effect on the people’s opinions of the showcase:

Nah. There was a Playstation showcase today and the first game they displayed was an overwatch clone.
Some people were even criticizing Sony for promotingMarvel Rivalsafter they had already announcedConcord, with the latter being a first-party title from the company:

Lol, promoting Marvel Rivals after introducing your own Overwatch clone is crazy.#PlaystationShowcase
Marvel Rivals and Concord’s Feature in the PlayStation State of Play Is a Bad Sign
When Naughty Dog’s live-service game, which was based onThe Last of Usuniverse, was canceled, it was a blessing in disguise. While gamers were disappointed because they wanted to experience the environment in a live-service game, the reason why it was canceled was more than reassuring.
PlayStation’s Final Nail in the Coffin for Days Gone 2 is a Slap in the Face for the Devs and Any Hopeful Fans, and it Has Nothing to do with State of Play
The studio didn’t want to shift its focus from doing what it does best: creating incredible single-player experiences. This truly sets Sony’s console lineup exclusives apart from their contemporaries. The fact that Sony included live-service titles in their showcase and had the same format says a lot about them.
