Two YouTubers,NinebyteandDhakhar, have created an entire RPG within the popular indie sandbox game,Valheim. The project took over 1,000 hours and a full year of planning, but is now available for players around the world to download for free. Although, it should be noted that the map is in beta and still requires a few bug fixes and extra additions.
In arecent YouTube video, Ninebyte explained the process of creating the map. After discussing a plethora of different ideas with Dhakhar, the two said they were apprehensive to begin the project as they questioned whether or not it was even possible. “We spent the first week of building just bringing in builds and modifying them off the edge of the world, creating the ultimate build graveyard to work from for the rest of the project,” Ninebyte explained.

After creating their “build graveyard,” Ninebyte said that he began work on the five main towns. Each town would eventually link together via the project’s story and lore. Once that was done, it was onto the twelve additional classes that would be available with the map. These classes took inspiration from theValheim Legends mod, which was created by Torann.
On top of the five main towns that were created for this epic RPG project, the two then added an additional 13 locations and some new boss arenas. While the pair have shown the arenas and locations in video format already, Ninebyte said they “want people to discover them for the first time naturally.” But, if you do want a sneak peek before you jump in, you can check out some screenshots below.

After creating the first alpha version of the map, Ninebyte and Dhakhar began upgrading all of the previously created locations. Roads were smoothed out, NPCs were added, interiors were created, paths for quests were created, and much more.
The second version of the project focused heavily on implementing a story and lore. “You’re thrown into a setting with adventurers guilds, which are a shadow of their former selves. You and your party are the new adventures, sent to the realm of Valheim with a chance to please Odin by taking a shot at battling your way through the bosses,” Ninebyte explained.
As the two approached the third and most current version of the map, the focus shifted to adding quests and NPCs, loot, and new enemy types to every single location on the map. Oh, and they also went ahead and added seven brand-new locations before the map went into beta.
After all of the hard work, the free-to-play map adds 40 unique locations, a story filled with rich lore, new enemies to battle, and plenty of adventures for players to embark on. I Don’t Like Survival Games, So Why Do I Like Valheim?
I never expected the game to give me the same thrill as beating a Dark Souls boss.
