Square Enix announced new sales numbers for theTrials of Manaremake: over one million copies have been shipped or downloaded worldwide. A special illustration by Haccan, the character designer of the remake, was published for the occasion. It’s important to note the game sold “only” 150,000 copies its first week after release on August 19, 2025. Meaning the sales ofTrials of Manahave been rising steadily over the months, thanks to more and more people realizing this is a greatremake.Back in August 2020, Square Enix mentioned the sales ofTrials of Manaweremuch higherthan its expectations, and how it was a good sign for the future of the series. It looks like we can raise our hopes even more now. Maybe my dream of Square Enix partnering up with13 Sentinels: Aegis Rimdeveloper Vanillaware for a 2D remake ofLegend of Manaisn’t so far-fetched.The announcement was made via both theSeiken DensetsuJapanese official twitter, and theMana SeriesEnglish official twitter.
Trials of Manasales top 1 million commemoration illustration
Original composer Hiroki Kikuta tweeted a message for the occasion:
“Seiken Densetsu 3 Trials of Manasurpassed one million, feels like my long-standing wishes have been granted. Let’s celebrate!”
Celebration tweet from the official Square Enix account:
It’s definitely impressive thatTrials of Manamanaged to sell over one million, and it deserved it. The original game was pretty good in the first place (except its lagging menus). The remake includes several good ideas. First, both the original and rearrangedOSTby Hiroki Kikuta are included. Secondly, the incredible character design, illustrations, and 3D models. Thirdly, the newbattle system.Lastly, the inclusion of brand new post game content and aNew Game +mode. All of these makeTrials of Manaa great remake.
However, you can easily tell the game was a small scale project for Square Enix. I personally regret few enhancements were made to the original script. Most notably when it comes to screenplay duringcutscenes. Back on Super Nintendo, our imagination could work things out. But now, it feels quite soulless to see the characters just standing there during cutscenes.
