Echois Marvel’s “Darkest show so far,” Says President Kevin Feige

At its premiere event, Marvel President Kevin Feige said that among all the shows made by the studio to date, this miniseries starring Alaqua Cox, Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Devery Jacobs and many more is the darkest one. This is the first-ever mature-rated project in the company’s history, showing off fast-paced action and brutal violence.

Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin in Echo

“This is a TV-MA show. This is an adult show. Just like the Marvel Knights Comics where Echo first started, it goes much deeper and much darker in ways that we could only do with a TV-MA rating, so I am excited for people to see, as readers of the comics know, the different tonalities that we’ve been able to do in all of our shows and this being the darkest one yet.” (Source:Marve Studios)

EchoDirector & EP Sydney Freeland Did Not Intend to Make a TV-MA Show

In many ways,Echomarks a new beginning for Marvel studio. One of them is it’s the first TV-MA show made by them. Shedding light on how they crafted this, executive producer and head of streaming television and animation at Marvel Studios Brad Winderbaum explained during a press conference:

“Echo is a more adult show. It’s our first TV-MA show, but we didn’t set out to make a TV-MA show. We set out to make a Maya Lopez show, and this is a character who has a violent past, who’s dealt with some real trauma, who has really difficult decisions to make, and who ultimately has to confront people she loves to grow and change.” (ViaMovie Web)

Echoco-director and executive producer Sydney Freeland in an interview withDeadlinestated how they made this miniseries.

“We did not set out to make a TV-MA show, but we did know it was going to be grounded. It was going to be gritty. It was going to be a little more visceral and street level, and the question was just, how [far] can we go? For myself, I’m down to go as far as [I can]. I want to push the envelope as far as Marvel will let me.”
