In 2025,League of Legendscould see the arrival of its first character from Netflix’sArcane, the critically acclaimed animated series set in the same universe. Mel Medarda, a fan-favorite character from the show, is rumored to be the new addition to Riot Games’ MOBA.

Riot Games has not officially confirmed her arrival, but hints fromArcane‘s creative team and recent developments inLeaguesuggest that Mel could be the first character to make the show to game leap. Fans have already started theorizing what kind of kit she could have.
Arcane‘s Mel Medarda needs to be the first playable character from the show
Amanda Overton, writer and producer forArcane, recently shared her hopes for a crossover between the Netflix series andLeague of Legends. In an interview withGamesRadar+, Overton emphasized that theArcaneteam envisioned their original characters eventually becoming part of the game.
I think we were all, in the writers’ room, thinking ‘we’re making something badass and unique here – hopefully, fingers crossed, they’ll put her in the game.’ I think that was always our hope that some of the characters in the show would go to the game and vice versa.

Mel’s potential inclusion inLeague of Legendsis particularly timely. Riot Games recently introduced her mother, Ambessa Medarda, as a playable champion. This move has fueled speculation that Mel’s debut could follow soon, potentially in early 2025. Riot has also confirmed that the show’ssuccess will lead to more projects.
Is There Going to Be “Arcane: League of Legends” Season 3?
The addition of Mel toLeaguewould mark the first time anArcane-exclusive character made the leap into the game. Overton noted that Mel could have “a mirroring power, because they can beat anyone… they could be up against the most powerful mage, and they could beat them.” It could be similar to whatDota 2has with Rubick’s ability to steal enemy spells.
Mel Medarda’s rise from an outcast noble to a powerful Piltover councilor has already made her one of the most compelling figures inArcane. Her complex relationship with her mother, Noxian warlord Ambessa Medarda, and her efforts to shape Piltover’s political and technological landscape are a highlight of her immense depth.

There’s already the makings of a kit in motion
TheLeague of Legendscommunity has already begun theorizing about Mel’s potential role in the game. Many expect her to be a mage or enchanter, possibly a hybrid of both. Fans on Reddit have speculated that she could have abilities with shields and reflection mechanics, allowing her to protect allies while deflecting enemy attacks.
“Her whole shtick is “empath” and I have a feeling her main interesting thing gameplay wise will be cantered around reflecting damage,” said one Redditor, referencing her character’s emphasis on empathy and understanding inArcane. This would set her apart inLeague’s expansive roster of champions.

League of Legends Aside, Overwatch Could Benefit Heavily From Arcane Crossover but Fans Are Convinced They “won’t get them”
It’s also ‘why not give it to a woman?’ We’re known for being motherly, we’re known for being empathetic. And Mel was that character in the show. As much as she tried to have that hard shell around her, she always had that.
Overton and theArcaneteam always intended for their work to inspire the game that inspired them. Overton talks about Mel’s empathetic yet commanding presence and how her character challenges traditional notions of power. It’s part of what makes the show amazing, aside from its huge budget.

If Mel does becomeLeague of Legends’first champion fromArcane, it will be a big moment for the collaboration between Riot Games and its entertainment division. Riot’s first attempts with in-game skins and cosmetics were rushed and failed to capture the full potential of the show’s popularity. With Mel, Riot has an opportunity to create a more seamless connection.
