The Officehas been a game-changer when it comes to sitcoms. The American mockumentary somehow ended up being much better than the British original and has established itself as one of the finest comedy masterpieces in the television industry. Whether it’s Steve Carell’s quirky Michael Scott or Jim and Pam’s oh-so-adorable relationship,The OfficeUSA has given us so much to remember.

Thus, when it was announced that an Australian version of the series was on its way, let’s just say that people were more than skeptical. And while many people have not appreciated the first season, there are some who do see it as more than just a remake.

Is ‘The Office’ Australia really that bad?

The OfficeAustralia was first announced back in May 2023 and it’s safe to say that it left the fans confused. The question that first came to everyone’s mind was,“Why?!”Well, why not? After all,Steve Carell‘s American iteration was a remake, too, wasn’t it?

Thus, some decided to give it the benefit of the doubt but unfortunately, the masses are not convinced. On Rotten Tomatoes, the first season which was released in October 2024, has an audience rating of 41% whereas the critics were much nicer to the series, giving it a solid 71%. To compare, the USA adaptation has an audience score of 89% and a critics score of 81% in total.

Clearly, Australia didn’t impress the fans much. Take a look at thisRedditthread for example:

The Office Australia (2024 -)

From calling it“politically correct”in a negative way to downright stating that it is“f*cking terrible,”the comment section was filled with people agreeing with the OP. However, there were some who did enjoy the remake, regardless of what the majority had to say.

Let’s give ‘The Office’ Australia the benefit of the doubt

Now, we understand that Australia’s version of Dunder Mifflin, Flinley Craddick, might not be on par with what we have seen and loved all these years. However, is it really so sinful that we won’t even give it a chance?

In the above-mentioned thread, there were a few Devil’s Advocates who admitted to finding the series enjoyable, if not loving it. For starters, user @celestial371 wrote that while they “didn’t have high expectations” from the show, they ended up enjoying it.

Take a look at what another user had to say about the remake:

Felicity Ward‘s Hannah Howard is the managing director of Flinley Craddick and she sure brings her unique touch to the franchise, whether you like it or not. All in all, the characters seen in the Australian show do not feel like a cheap copy of Dunder Mifflin’s employees. They are their own people and have their own quirks to share with the world.

Let’s not forget thatThe OfficeUSA almost came to an end afterseason onedid not sit right with the audience. If we had given up on the show like we are giving up on its remake, we might not have gotten the gift that was the later seasons. So, let’s go easy onThe OfficeAustralia and give it another chance, shall we?
