But, he’s a well-known character to those who have read the novel, watched the movies, or played The Lord of the Rings video games. Sauron’s real name is Mairon, who was once the greatest smith in all of Aule. He met Morgoth in the First Age, after which he became his loyal servant,
Then in the Second Age, Sauron became the second Dark Lord of the Middle Earth and created the One Ring. But, he lost the Ring after his defeat in the War of the Last Alliance. But, he was finally taken down in the War of the Ring and was sent to the Void.
The Eye of Sauron
Galadriel saw the symbol carved on her brother’s body after he lost his life in the war against Sauron. Later, the same symbol was found in the mysterious place while the group was on their quest to find Sauron. The symbol is known by the name “Eye of Sauron” or “Great Eye,” which was adopted by him in the Third Age. Other names given to the symbol are Eye of Barad-dur,Red Eye,Lidless Eye,and the Evil Eye.
The symbol can be seen on the banners and armors of his Mordor army as a symbol of his supremacy. Also, the Eye of Sauron symbolizes that he sees everything and knows everything. The symbol also helped Sauron to trace Frodo Baggins, the Ring-bearer.
Sauron’s Powers
His level of manipulation and decisiveness cannot be matched. Throughout The Lord of the Rings story, Sauron is seen manipulating his enemies with different means. In one instance, he promised eternal life to the Numenoreans and guided them to their destruction instead. He is a fire user and can be seen using and manipulating the fires of the Earth and the elements of nature.
Sauron is the possessor of immense scientific knowledge of the world’s substance and knows how to properly use it for his own benefit. This vast knowledge helped him build his Barud-dur fort and the One Ring. Sauron is immortal, living for around 56,000 years with and without a physical form. His shape-shifting power and immense physical strength further add to his strength.
