The legacy of Kevin Costner cannot be refuted, despite his insistence on staying on the margins of celebrity worship and fame. The actorʼs familiarity with the world of Westerns and his obsession with it runs in his veins. And given his early rise to the higher rungs of Hollywood, Costner had earned his right to ask for roles that allowed him to explore the genre he loved more than the ones that were assigned to him by studio executives.

Kevin Costner Goes Spooky For His Darkest Role to Date
Not many actors can claim to have the privilege of showcasing their full acting potential by going psychotic in front of the camera. Such a role not only takes an actor to the deepest reaches of their psyche but has them tapping into it in an unhealthy approach to draw out the worst and the most disturbing portrayals.

Kevin Costner inMr. Brooks[Credit: MGM]Hollywood is filled with roles like Keyser Soze but very few actors are actually convincing enough to pull off their roles with enough conviction to warrant a sequel or a rewatch of their films. On Kevin Costnerʼs part, his titular role inMr. Brooksconvinced him that a sequel was much warranted despite his animosity toward movie spin-offs.
In an interview withEntertainment Weekly, the actor revealed:
I wasn’t dying to do a role like this. I’m not a guy that goes ‘Boo!’ But when I read it, I thought the writers found an amazing window into the subject matter. Now I feel this is as strong a performance as I’ve ever given. This was written with the idea that we would do a couple others.
When the writers first presented the notion to me, I said, ‘Oh, bulls—t! I haven’t done Tin Cup 2, or Bull Durham 2, or Open Range: The Early Years, so you don’t have to attempt to hook me with that.’ But when they told me their idea, the hair on the back of my neck stood up. We’re hoping this little movie develops a following so we can play this story out the way it should.
