For example, if I’m not in immediate danger from Independent Powers or overzealous neighbors, I’ll put any militaristic research on the back burner and set up a victory centered aroundeconomyandculture.

What Are The First Units You Should Build in Civ 7?

It’s time to start yourCiv 7journey. Once you’ve settled your capital, the first unit you should always build is a Scout.

Being able to explore your surroundings is crucial forlong-term success in Civ 7.

Sure, you can scout with your military unit, but they won’t be as mobile or effective.

Your goal isn’t to conquer the world but to take your first steps and discover what’s out there.

That’s why the second unit I always recommend building is also a Scout.

One Scout is great, but two are better, allowing you to double your reconnaissance work and get an idea of how the map is laid out.

What Is The First Building You Should Build in Civ 7?

This is an easier question to answer as you only have one choice.

After two Scouts, it’s time forour first building: the Granary.

This is an essential early game building as it helps increase your food supply, allowing your city to grow.

Best of all, as you continue to improve your city’s tiles, the Granary helps further boost your growth.

Producing Your First Settler in Civ 7

It’s at this point that I liketo build my first Settler.

The above image is why it’s so important to have two scouts early on. Look at how much of the map I discovered before putting my Settler into production.

It allows me to make better-informed decisions on where to place myfirst expansion settlement. I now know whether it’s safe from hostile enemies, where important resources are, and the best areas to expand into.

When Do I Build My First Military Unit in Civ 7?

From here, I can play it one of two ways. First, I can focus on another Settler if the map looks like this.

If there’s no immediate threat, I don’t have to build a military quite yet.

There are no signs of hostile Independent Powers, so I can keep expanding without having to protect my units.

However, that’s not always the case, and it can quickly change in the blink of an eye.

Once I discover an enemy at my doorstep, it’s time to invest resources in military production. This includesbuilding up military units and researching Animal Husbandryif you haven’t done so yet.

From here, the choice depends on how the early game shapes out.

Do you continue expanding? Will you conquer any and all neighbors? Or will you focus on building your Districts and gaining an edge in Science or Culture? The choice inCiv 7is yours.
