The PlayStation 5 is finally heating up thanks to stock making its way into the hands of console-hungry gamers and the fact that some developers are starting to target the next-generation system as their port of choice. Sony has been doing its best to add as much content to the already released console as possible, with a wide array of digital games being available for fans to hop into right now. Some of these games are even free, with some of the best MMORPGs out there downloadable on Sony’s latest generation hardware.

To help put a spotlight on some of the best possible MMORPGs that can be enjoyed on the PS5, the following list contains a look at some great MMOs, both free-to-play, and paid subscription, that players can hop into right now.
7Genshin Impact
Genshin Impact was a welcome surprise for fans that weren’t following along with its development. Some fans that had played The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild had likely fallen in love with the exploration, movement, climbing, and combat of the Nintendo release. Geshin Impact emulated that same style, but offered up their own unique characters, and packaged everything up in a Free-to-play gacha-style game that had players grinding through quests and collecting currency to try their hands at summoning some of the rarest characters available.
Since its introduction, Genshin Impact has seen tons of updates and character introductions. Anyone who hasn’t jumped into this Free-to-play release will have mountains of content to sift through, making it an incredible value for MMO fantatics.

Fans have been clambering for a Pokemon MMORPG for a long time. Sadly, Nintendo and Game Freak have yet to combine forces on something that large scale. Pokemon GO does fill the void for some players but those looking for something that feels more like an expansive player-based experience should check into Temtem. Though it shares some similarities to the iconic monster-catching series, it’s definitely its own entity.
In fact, Temtem is so different that players may not feel like they’re playing Pokemon but rather an entirely new series (like Digimon, or Monster Hunter Rancher). This is very welcome news to those that are seeking something “Pokemon-like” but want completely new designs and gameplay elements.

Easily one of the strangest and most endearing titles to make this list, Trove is a free-to-play experience (with premium purchases) that is built in a style similar to Minecraft. Those that enjoy building things block-by-block will enjoy Trove’s base-building mechanics and marvel at its playful yet visually beautiful environments. It’s much more “loot-based” than Minecraft, with players able to build their own classes and unlock a wide array of unique weapons that were built by other players.
Trove is a ton of fun and players won’t have to spend a dime to enjoy it.

4Black Desert Online
There have been a lot of engrossing free-to-play MMORPGs introduced to the genre over the years and some of them are incredibly ambitious in their design. Black Desert Online entered the market to praise from some genre fans, who cheered the Asia-based fantasy title for its visceral combat. Those that are looking for an MMORPG that doesn’t feel like a traditional “point and click” style game will possibly embrace Black Desert Online with open arms.
It’s a graphically beautiful world that features quite a few characters and quests, all underlined by some amazing combat that feels much more hack-and-slash action-based than MMO-based.

3Phantasy Star Online 2
The original Phantasy Star Online was a smash hit for some when it dropped back at the end of 2000, with some players hopping onto the MMORPG to experience online gaming via console for the first time. It was a great release too, with fun combat and some great weapons. Fast-forward to the modern age and Phantasy Start Online 2 would finally hit store shelves, but only in Japan for what felt like an agonizingly long time. Those not located in the Land of the Rising Sun wouldn’t be able to get their hands on the MMORPG without jumping through some seriously large hoops.
Now, finally, everyone can hop onto the highly-anticipated sequel, even those with a PS5.Phantasy Star Online 2 is a massive boon for fans of the seriesand a great action-based Sci-Fi epic for anyone unfamiliar with the series.

2The Elder Scrolls Online
There’s no denying how influential The Elder Scrolls has been on the world of RPGs. Skyrim has been re-ported what seems like a dozen times and players can live out their adventure as te Dragonborn on a staggering amount of consoles and hardware. It’s easy to see why, as Skyrim offers some truly entertaining RPG gameplay with engaging combat and some amazing story-based role-playing opportunities.
It’s for this reason that The Elder Scrolls Online is so fun. It takes the formula that gamers have come to know and love with The Elder Scrolls and transforms it into an MMO, giving players a chance to team up with other TES fans and enjoy a variety of recognizable locations and characters.
1Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn
Arguably one of the most polarizing MMORPGs currently on the market, the revival of Final Fantasy 14 has been a welcome addition to the genre. What started out as a rocky release, developers stuck with their plan to bring the world of Eorzea to life by canceling the floundering Final Fantasy 14 shortly after it began to die down. From there, they went back to the drawing board and developed Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, finally bringing their initial vision to life.
