With Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man long dead in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there’s little discourse about Spider-Man’s status as the most popular superhero in the franchise.

The webhead’s esteemed position at the summit was further cemented bySpider-Man: No Way Home’sperformance at the box office. With a global collection of $1.9 billion, the movie climbed to the third spot in the list of highest-grossing superhero films, only behind the last twoAvengersmovies.
However, the 2021 blockbuster – which saw Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield join hands with the lead of the story, Tom Holland – reignited the debate about who is the best Spider-Man to ever grace the big screen. When asked to pitch in, Garfield had an interesting response.

What Andrew Garfield Said About Fans Not Liking His Spider-Man
Andrew Garfieldreplaced Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker in 2012, donning the red-and-blue spandex forThe Amazing Spider-Man.
The Marc Webb-directed action adventure earned $758 million at the box office. However, it wasn’t received very well by critics. Although much of the criticism was showered due to the filmmaker’s failure to properly develop the antagonist, it still impacted Garfield’s popularity among hardcore fans of Marvel Comics’ legacy character.

The financial and critical success of his successor,Tom Holland‘sSpider-Manmovies didn’t help theHacksaw Ridgestar’s case either. And when Maguire, Garfield, and Holland all joined hands in multiverse chaos (thanks to Doctor Strange’s spell)in Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans got another opportunity to compare different iterations of the character.
During the Red Sea Film Festival (viaVariety), Garfield was asked if he gets upset if anyone prefers another Spider-Man. He replied:

“I’m 40 years old. If you love me, fine, and if you don’t love me, it’s your loss.”
Garfield’s indifference towards such fan debates might further push him down the pecking order. But, again, it would mean little since it doesn’t affect him.

How Andrew Garfield Reacted After Getting Spider-Man Role
The 40-year-old might not care much about comparisons with Maguire and Holland, but when he first bagged the role, it really meant a lot to him, so much so that he shed a tear or two.

“It’s bizarre [wearing the Spider-Man suit] and I have to not look at my face. It’s strange and surreal to be wearing it and I won’t lie, I actually shed a tear when I first wore the spandex for the first time. I didn’t expect to get so emotional but I did.”
The99 Homesstar was apparently very serious about not disappointing Spider-Man fans, and accordingly, prepared for his role by studying the movements of spiders and trying to incorporate them as much as he could. He also took up yoga and pilates to become more flexible.
