Over the years since he first embarked on this adventurous journey as an actor, James Franco has starred in quite a lot of top-notch roles that have made him stand as one of the most pre-eminent actors in the entire industry. But while a majority of them have landed him global recognition, he has also made some bad choices that didn’t result in the best of situations for him.

For instance, his $28 million fantasy-comedy movie with Natalie Portman from 2011,Your Highness, has been one of his greatest regrets to date. To say the least, he hated making that one movie so much that not only does he claim to have never watched that film in the first place, but it just may have scarred him so badly that he may have even ended up with permanent PTSD!

James Franco Has the Worst Things to Say AboutYour Highness

Among a series of fortunate roles that made him a big name in the industry, Franco made the mistake of approving his fantasy-comedy from 2011,Your Highness. Starring alongsideNatalie Portman‘s Isabel, he plays Prince Fabious, one of the two princes who embark on the journey to save their father’s kingdom all the while rescuing a damsel in distress.

However, this film was a major flop for reasons more than one. And theMother, May I Sleep with Danger?star, for one, was anything but okay with this. This was why, while getting candid withGQfor a comedy issue cover shoot in 2013, he even went as far as to say:

Your Highness? That movie sucks. You can’t get around that.

That’s not all, for Franco’s disgust for the critically panned piece went much, much deeper than this. So much so that he even used it wittily to his own benefit hilariously during his roast,Comedy Central Roast of James Franco: Uncensored.

During an episode of the same, the 46-year-old actor sarcastically ranted out (viaEntertainment Weekly):

I agreed to do this roast because I wanted to do something I’ve never done before — something that has zero artistic value, something nobody will remember three months from now, something that’s offensive, homophobic and stars horrifically untalented people and something that’s only a big deal to a handful of teenage stoners on Twitter.

While this part already added that perfectly berating tinge to his roast, it further rubbed the salt to his wound whenJames Francodropped the plot twist by pulling his disastrous 2011 film in between.

As he went on to say:

You might say, ‘James, didn’t you just describe Your Highness? I wouldn’t know, I didn’t see Your Highness.

Of course, seeing him being so casuallycritical of the one piecethat is regarded as one of his least well-received projects comes as a candid surprise that just may have hit the actor a bit too hard. But after looking at the way the film performed, it might as well have been hard enough to scar him to the point of landing him with permanent PTSD!

Your HighnessWas an Absolute Disaster: Both Critical and Commercial

From the moment it hit the screens,Your Highnessestablished itself asone of the more disappointingly cringy piecesfrom the greatly regarded Franco. If anything, it is nothing short of a botch on his resume and served as the mishit that, so it seems now, the actor never truly wanted to make and would, perhaps, regret for the rest of his life.

In its unfortunately unsuccessful attempt at mixing the comedy and fantasy genres by incorporating elements of the stoner comedy concept and a mythical quest like those out of the Arthurian fables together, it resulted in a distasteful“highly monotonous romp that registers only occasional laughs,”as the critics consensus onRotten Tomatoesdeems it.

“A true friend of Peter without annoying love triangle”: No, James Franco is Not the Best Harry Osborn We Have Seen Yet

Besides its brutal critically panned 27% score on the Tomatometer and 34% on the Popcornmeter, the film was also a massive box-office disaster. According to the numbers listed byBox Office Mojo, it was made on a budget of $49.9 million but failed to seize even its budgeted amount as its worldwide revenue rested at $28 million after a humiliating box office rune.

For what it’s worth, with all of this being put out there, it only becomes inevitably understandable why James Franco has been so condemning of it all along!

Your Highness is currently available to be streamed on Prime Video.
