The trailer features Tekken characters Kazuya Mishima and Jin Kazama facing off. Kazuya admonishes Jin before the pair face off in typical Tekken fashion, with fists and dropkicks. The trailer makes sure to show off the graphical fidelity of the game, with close-ups of bulging muscles and the environment spitting up water in response to the character’s movements.
Kazuya and Jin go back and forth with the latter eventually coming out on top at the end of the trailer. The screen shows a link in a chain breaking before flashing the logo for Tekken 8. There was speculation that Tekken 8 could be on the way after a teaser at Evo. The teaser showed a cutscene from the first Tekken where Kazuya drops Heihachi off a cliff. Kazuya then becomes more realistic and the words “Get Ready” flash across the screen.
Following the teaser, Tekken director Katsuhiro Harada appeared on stage and hugged many of the Evo hosts before leaving. It was an enigmatic way to tease a game, but everyone seemed to get the message.
The series’ prior instalment,Tekken 7, was released back in 2015 and has been updated regularly ever since. It is not clear whether Tekken 8 will be a PlayStation exclusive as Tekken 7 released on both Xbox and PC. If it does end up being exclusive, it would be a big get forSonyand PlayStation.
Tekken 7 was thoroughly supported by Bandai Namco, and it’s likely the next instalment will be here for the long haul as well. No release date yet but “stay tuned” implies more information is on its way.
