Ever since she made her debut in the entertainment industry, Sydney Sweeney has been as vocal about everything as ever. Be it addressing the criticism aimed at her or simply calling out Hollywood’s practices and shortcomings, she has been unduly candid about it all. That said, she didn’t keep quiet when things came down to the events surrounding the ‘Me Too’ era either.

For one, in the wake of this movement that embroiled a lot of people in its controversy at its peak, a rather famous notion came about that had people saying, ‘Women empowering other women.’ However, Sweeney believes it was all nothing more than one of Hollywood’s biggest lies, for that hardly seems to be the case after getting a closer look at the industry.
Sydney Sweeney Gets Candid About the ‘Women Empowering Other Women’ Notion
Back in the day, when the ‘Me Too’ initially came out and about to highlight the prevalence of s-xual harassment and assault against women and girls, a very powerful notion made its way out alongside it: ‘Women empowering other women.’ Pretty much every female had this saying on her lips, and then there wasNatalie Portman, who took it a notch further.

For those who may not remember, at the Academy Awards 2020, the gorgeous gown theStar Warsactress was seen sporting was more than just a fashion statement: It was an iconic style used to share a message about the state of Hollywood. This is because her Maria Grazia Chiuri–designed embroidered Dior gown and matching cape paid tribute to cinema’s female creators.
On one side of the lapel of her black cloak were stitched the names of the genius women who were behind some of the best flicks from that year, among the likes ofHustlers,Little Women, andThe Farewell. This was done to serve as an urgent reminder of the undermining of all those female directors whose lack of presence in the nominations was more than just critically noticed.

However, while even Portman stepped up to seemingly carry forward this notion about women in the industry empowering other fellow women,Sydney Sweeneyfeels it was all nothing more than just a front. To say the least, theAnyone but Youstar is hard-bent on the fact that this notion is all fake and serves as a front to hide everything they say behind everyone’s back.
During a recent interview withVanity Fair, the 27-year-old heartthrob stunner didn’t hesitate to call the same out as she candidly expressed her thoughts on this notion, saying,

This entire industry, all people say is ‘Women empowering other women.’ None of it’s happening. All of it is fake and a front for all the other shit that they say behind everyone’s back.
Unfortunately enough, it’s not like she is wrong, either. For one, jumping back to the example of Portman: While she did wear that gorgeous gown at an event as widely publicized and televised as the Oscars to support women filmmakers, her supporting efforts haven’t followed her since. If anything, of all the films she has starred in since then, not one had her working with any of the female directors whose names she had embroidered on her cloak, let alone with other female masterminds in the industry besides them.

That said, as discouraging as it may all be to acknowledge, the truth is still as bitter as ever. And, of course, who could know about this better than the very actress who found herself to be the victim of backlash from a fellow veteran producer?
“It’s very disheartening to see women tear other women down”: Sydney Sweeney
As fans already know, previously, veteran Hollywood producerCarol Baumgot under a lot of fire forclaiming Sweeney is “not pretty” and is one who just “can’t act.” Following the same, in her interview with Vanity Fair, she finally addressed that criticism, rightfully calling itdishearteningto witness such a turn of events when women should instead be supporting each other.
TheMadame Webactress said, “It’s very disheartening to see women tear other women down, especially when women who are successful in other avenues of their industry see younger talent working really hard — hoping to achieve whatever dreams that they may have — and then trying to bash and discredit any work that they’ve done.” We agree, Sweeney, we agree.

At the same time, she continued to talk about the “so many studies and different opinions on the reasoning behind it,” sharing:
I’ve read that our entire lives, we were raised—and it’s a generational problem—to believe only one woman can be at the top. There’s one woman who can get the man. There’s one woman who can be, I don’t know, anything. So then all the others feel like they have to fight each other or take that one woman down instead of being like, ‘Let’s all lift each other up.’ I’m still trying to figure it out. I’m just trying my best over here. Why am I getting attacked?
With that being said, one thing has most certainly become more evident now than ever before: ‘Women empowering other women’doesn’t actually exist in Hollywood, and that, in itself, is pretty much a serious concern that needs to be tackled way before even wandering remotely close to supporting the ‘Me Too’ movement.
