Supernaturalran for fifteen seasons, delivering 327 episodes of Sam and Dean Winchester traveling across America on their monster-hunting adventures. Despite having some standout episodes, some fan favorites, and some total duds, the series churned out a mostly consistent level of quality during its run on air.

As a result, when revisiting the series and its fifteen seasons, some episodes fly under the radar. The fifth episode of season 8 is easily one of these underrated episodes that showed fans have mostly forgotten twelve years later. However, the episode is the reason why Jensen Ackles is a true fan-favorite, and here is what you need to know about it.
SupernaturalSeason 8 Episode 5 is One of the Show’s Most Underrated
SupernaturalstarsJensen Acklesas Dean Winchester, who faces a fresh set of challenges in season 8 after escaping from Purgatory. In the process, he makes a new friend in Benny, a vampire who goes on to become an important recurring character.
Benny’s storyline comes to a head in the fifth episode, titledBlood Brother. In the episode, Benny calls Dean for help as he embarks on a quest to exact revenge on his Maker. Given Benny and his time together in the Purgatory, Dean agrees to help him take down The Maker.

The episode features a fine blend of the show’s signature humor wrapped in some tense and dramatic moments and twists. As a result, the episode appears to be formulaic on the surface. However, the episode contrasts Dean and Benny’s friendship with his bond with Sam.
