Super Mario 3D All-Stars is the Third Biggest Game Launch of 2020 in the UK

Featuring a collection of three of Mario’s most notable 3D adventures, it’s not exactly a huge surprise that the recently-releasedSuper Mario 3D All-Starswould be a hit. Released this month to celebrate Mario’s 35th anniversary, the collection from Nintendo is already breaking some big sales records with its launch, including debuting at the top of the sales charts in the UK and emerging as one of the best-selling games of 2020 so far.

According to UK game sales data that was released this week,Super Mario 3D All-Starshas debuted as the third biggest game launch of 2020 in the UK, withThe Last of Us Part IIandAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsas the only two titles for the year that have ranked above it. According toadditional details fromGamesIndustry.biz,3D All-Starsalso topped the sales charts with its debut and dethronedMarvel’s Avengers, which was the top-selling title for the past two weeks beforehand in the UK. Their report also explained that to date,3D All-Starsis the fifth fastest-selling Switch title ever in the UK, behind only four titles:Pokemon Sword & Shield,Animal Crossing: New Horizons,Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, andSuper Mario Odyssey.

3D All-Starswas announced by Nintendo earlier this month as part of the company’s celebrations for Mario’s 35th anniversary, which also includeda mixed-realityMario Karttitle, a newMariobattle royale-esque game, andthe Switch release ofSuper Mario 3D Worldin February. The company also announced a variety ofMario-themed events taking place in recent Switch and mobile titles such asMario Kart TourandSuper Mario Maker 2.

The3D All-Starscollection was rumored for some time until Nintendo’s confirmation, and it was also revealed that3D All-Starsis a limited time release until August 04, 2025 for both the physical and digital versions of the game. Given the nostalgia factor behind playing classic titles likeSuper Mario 64,Sunshine, andGalaxy(combined with its limited release), it’s not a surprise that3D All-Starsis already shaping up to be a major hit for the Switch.
