After over 15 years since the release of the second installment in the series, it seems like a newKnights of the Old Republicgame could finally be in the pipeline.

In a new report fromCinelinx, it is said that EA is currently working on a newStar Wars: Knights of the Old Republicgame that would serve as a remake of sorts for the original title. This information comes from two separate sources that spoke with Cinelinx and explained that this newKOTORproject would be more of a sequel than an actual remake due to how it would be altered. The game is said to incorporate elements of the first two games, such as certain story beats, that would officially bring them into the current Star Wars canon. A specific developer or studio that could be working on the project wasn’t mentioned.

This same report goes on to state that EA has a variety of Star Wars projects that are currently in the works outside of this rumoredKnights of the Old Republicremake. Some of the other titles that were briefly mentioned to be in development include a sequel toStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Orderand another Star Wars project for the Nintendo Switch. None of these games have obviously been announced just yet, but maybe EA will reveal more later this year.

On a personal note, the originalKnights of the Old Republicis still one of my personal favorite games of all-time and I would absolutely be frothing at the mouth for a remake, if it were to come about. It’s egregious to me that Revan, the protagonist of the originalKOTOR, still isn’t considered a canon character in the Star Wars universe ever since Disney purchased the license. And yes, I’m aware thatStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalkertechnicallymade Revan canon, but the way in which it was done just seems hollow and unfitting. Revan needs to make his proper return in a video game, dang it.

Despite how EA has somewhatbumbled the Star Wars license over the past few years, if a project like this rumoredKnights of the Old Republicremake was to actually be in development, I’m sure the publisher could win over many fans in a heartbeat, assuming it was done right. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that this pipedream actually becomes a reality as we begin to enter the PS5 and Xbox Series X generation.
