Nintendo originally introduced amiibo less than a year prior to the release of the original Splatoon. The release of Splatoon brought a number of specialty amiibo and since then has been one of the more prolific amiibo series with new amiibo for each game. While the amiibo for Splatoon 3 do not come out until later this year, Splatoon 3 has amiibo support for all of the releases and this guide will break down how you’re able to use them and how to get all of the items for each one.

Various games utilize amiibo in different ways, but one of the most common is the unlocking of equipment to use, which is exactly how it is done in Splatoon 3. While this is sometimes just done from the pause menu, Splatoon 3 requires you to go to a specific location instead to use them.

How Do You Use Amiibo In Splatoon 3

To use your amiibo in Splatoon 3, you need to head to Splatsville first and position yourself at the bottom of the main stairwell that would take you up to the Lobby. From there, turn yourself around and you’ll see a giant amiibo box in the game that looks just like one an actual amiibo would come in when you buy it.

Now go up to the amiibo box and press A to activate it, which will cause it to zoom in on the box. At this time, put the Splatoon amiibo that you want to use onto the NFC port either on your Joy-Con Controller or the Pro Controller and a digital representation of that amiibo will pop up inside the box.

Which Amiibos Can Be Used In Splatoon 3?

If this is the first time you have ever used this amiibo in a Splatoon game, you will need to register it. If you had used it with a prior Splatoon game though, you will have the option to update it to use with Splatoon 3. You might expect that just using the amiibo outright here will unlock everything associated with it, as each of the amiibo have multiple, which you’re able to see below.

However, those new amiibo that you are registering will only give you one of the items you need. As a result, you will have to go and play a number of matches after registering the amiibo to your Splatoon 3 game, and then it will eventually provide you with all the items. If you had played enough games in the past with the amiibo registered to Splatoon or Splatoon 2, you will automatically be given all of the items right away, so you’ll just have to try each of them out.

The only amiibo of the group that are duplicates are the two trio releases for the first Splatoon, as you won’t get additional items after already scanning the first trio. Otherwise, you will get three for everything else once you have played enough matches after registering each amiibo.
