With Microsoft seemingly open to shiftingany first-party game to competing consoles, it seems one of the company’s biggest franchises is making the move to PS5.

I’m referring toGears of War, which has been rumored to be hitting Sony’s console sometime this year.

Gears of War Collection Is A Rumor That Won’t Die Down

Since last year, rumors of a Gears of War Collection have been mentioned by various insiders and leakers, though Microsoft has yet to confirm or deny it.

Over on Twitter/X,Detective Seedssaid that the Gears of War Collection file is now on the PlayStation Store backend. Seeds also mentioned that it’s set to be released in early to mid-August and will even be PS5 Pro enhanced.

Unfortunately, this alleged leak also contains some bad news. The Gears of War Collection won’t feature multiplayer PvP (player vs. player) and will focus on the campaign only. Apparently, the store page for it on the backend shows it as one-player and doesn’t show “support for additional players,” suggesting there won’t be multiplayer.

Bear in mind that this is all unverified information, and as such, it should be treated with a huge bag of salt.

10 Games You Should Play If You Love Gears Of War

If you’re a fan of the Gears of War series and want to find similar games, this list can help.

While I wouldn’t be surprised to see a Gears of War Collection be announced and released later this year, I would be very surprised if it at least didn’t include campaign co-op, which is something the franchise is known for.

If the collection doesn’t feature PvP, that wouldn’t come as a surprise, since there is Gears of War E-Day in development, and I doubt Microsoft wants their old Gears game competing with E-Day’s multiplayer and potentially cannibalizing the player base.

The first Gears of War was released in 2006 for the Xbox 360 and was one of the console’s big exclusives, making it stand out from the pack. Since its release, it has spawned numerous sequels, with the latest game, Gears 5, released in 2019.

PC-1

The next entry in the franchise, Gears of War E-Day, was announced last year at Xbox’s Showcase in June. It’s being developed by The Coalition and is said to be a prequel, and will be set 14 years before the events of the original game.
