Robert Pattinson is one of the most talented actors in the industry and this year he proved that he is incredibly amazing behind the camera as well as he is in front of the camera. The English actor dubbed the voice of The Grey Heron in the Japanese animated movie,The Boy and the Heronand took the whole world by surprise. It was this stellar performance in the movie that led fans to think that Pattinson might be the first actor in history to be nominated for an Oscar for a voice-acting role.

The movie,The Boy and the Heronrevolves around a boy named Mahito who follows The Grey Heron into a tower and enters a new world that is shared by both the living and the dead.Robert Pattinsonmade his voice acting debut by lending his voice to The Grey Heron in the movie and absolutely nailed it. TheBatmanactor completely transformed his voice into a heavy, gruff and menacing voice which is completely opposite to his usual soft voice.

Pattinson gave his performance of a lifetime for the movie,The Boy and the Heronand that is why some fans are hopeful the actor just might create history by being the first person to be nominated for an Academy Award for a voice-acting role.
Voice director Michael Sinterniklaas talks about casting Robert Pattinson as The Grey Heron
Even the voice director ofThe Boy and the Heron, Michael Sinterniklaas, was initially skeptical about casting Robert Pattinson as the Grey Heron as he once revealed in an interview withIndieWire. Just like everyone, Sinterniklaas too thought maybe Pattinson’s voice would be too soft for this role but the English actor apparently showed up to the first recording session of the movie with some pre-recorded audios of himself to prove that he was the right person for the job. Sinterniklaas said,
“I thought he’s [Robert Pattinson] a fine actor but there was nothing in his body of work to indicate that he could do this crazy thing. When he came to our studio in L.A., he was like ‘OK, I’ve been thinking about this role and I recorded some stuff. Do you want to hear it?’ And he whips out his iPhone and plays some stuff that he’s just been doing in the Memos app and it was already the voice. I was like, ‘Oh, bingo, you’ve already got the character.'”

In the 95-year history of the Oscars Awards, not even a single star has been nominated for any Award for their voice acting performance. If Robert Pattinson is nominated for an Oscar for his role inThe Boy and the Heron, it definitely will be the first one in history.
Maybe the Oscars should consider creating a new category for voice actors, as each year, spectacular animated movies come out and some voice actors definitely deserve an Award for their dedication to their roles as well.
