Risk Of Rain Returns: How To Unlock All Characters
There are 16 unique Survivors in Risk of Rain Returns. Here is a guide on how to unlock every single one of them.
Of course, if you’ve already played the original, you know what to expect and what each Difficulty entails, but for players who’ve never played a Risk of Rain game before, all this is completely new. Here is how it all comes together.

Risk of Rain Returns
Drizzle vs. Rainstorm vs. Monsoon
Before starting a new run, players will be able to select the Difficulty of that run from a selector at the bottom of the screen, just below Skills. There are three settings to choose from:
Risk of Rain Returns employs a mechanic calledTime Scaling Difficulty. Here is what it means.

How Does Time Scaling Difficulty Work?
When you start a run, notice there is atimer at the top rightcorner of your screen. Under that timer isDifficulty: Very Easy, and a vertical bar with nine notches. This is the actual Difficulty of the game. As you keep playing, you’ll soon hear an ominous bell sound. Look up at the timer again, and you’ll see that the Difficulty has gone from Very Easy to Easy, and a notch on the vertical bar has been filled out.
Every time the bell rings, and a new notch is filled, the Difficulty of the run increases. The rate at which the vertical bar fills up is decided by which Difficulty setting you picked at the start of the run: Drizzle (50%), Rainstorm (100%), and Monsoon (150%).

There areten levelsof scaling Difficulty. Enemies get progressively harder (more health, more damage) as the scaling difficulty increases.
Intensity Settings
On the character selection screen before starting a new run, you can also adjust the intensity settings from the Rules tab. Here, you can adjusthow much damage you takeas well ashow much damage you deal. The slider under each section can beadjusted to 200%on the higher endor 10%on the lower end. You cannot reduce either value below 10%.
After selecting your preferred intensity settings, theypersist across runsas long as you don’t manually adjust them again. Intensity isentirely independent of the regular Difficulty settings.
