It’s been over a decade since the lastPunch-Outgame that was released back in 2009, and still, we haven’t seen anything new from the franchise so far.
As one of the oldest Nintendo franchises, the original version ofPunch-Outwas published back in the 1980s for arcades. After its huge success, a new version of the game was released for NES in the same era, followed by a SNES and then a Wii version years later. And that’s all. Even Wii U players didn’t receive a newPunch-Out.
Here Are Some Evidence to Believe There Is/Was Plans for a New Punch-Out at Nintendo
Recently,a Reddit usershared a post regarding all thePunch-Outhints from Nintendo in the past few years, which could be evidence of the fact that Nintendo either had or still has some plans for reviving this franchise.
Back in 2018, Nintendo submitted new trademarks for a number of its franchises includingMario Party,Paper Mario, andPunch-Out. Well, most of those trademarks received a new entry in the last few years except for one. You know which one!
Only a year later,Luigi’s Mansion 3was released by Nintendo, the latest game from the developers of Wii’sPunch-Out. As you may already know, one of the game’s hallways featured a poster fromPunch-Outwhich was assumed to be only an easter egg to an old title by Next Level Game.
Things got even more serious when Mike Tyson, the iconic face of the originalPunch-Out, confirmed in a podcast back in 2021 that there would be another game from the series in the future.
Putting all these pieces together leads us to assume that Nintendo has had some plans to revive the franchise since 2018. However, we don’t if the intention is still there, and if we could ever see a newPunch-Outannouncement during a Nintendo Direct!
