While Amazon’sGod of WarTV series has yet to cast anyone, we at least know how long the first season will be.

Not only that, but showrunner Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek) also talked about how he’s checking the game’s story and lore with God of War 2018 game director Cory Barlog.

The God of War: Ragnarok PC Port is Being Review Bombed

God of War: Ragnarok has ‘mixed’ reviews on Steam, and the reason why is a tale as old as time.

Don’t expect to watch the first episode anytime soon, as Moore confirmed the soonest they can start filming is in 2026.

God of War TV Series Will Only Consist Of 10 Episodes

Speaking toColliderabout the TV show’s development, Moore confirmed they are still in the “scripts phase” of the project, and couldn’t even give a timeframe for when they’ll start filming. It definitely won’t be this year, and Moore can only answer, “we shall see,” when asked if filming will start in 2026.

While it’s been mentioned that the TV series will be based on the 2018 version of the franchise and not Kratos' Greek saga, Moore made it clear that it won’t be a frame-by-frame remake of the game, but you should expect it to be faithful to the source material.

Moore also discussed the assistance he has received from Balrog, and in the process, confirmed thatthe first season of Amazon’s God of War series will consist of 10 episodes.

Moore said, “Cory Barlog is a genius. That’s not a word I throw around very much, but I’ve had several meetings with Cory, and you ask Cory, ‘Well, tell me about the backstory of this or how this works,’ and he just can talk because he holds it all in his head. And I usually pride myself about, as a showrunner, I can hold the season in my head. I know what the 10 episodes are, and I can tell you about them. Cory can tell you the whole thing in every possible way — all the mythology, how it connects one to the other, what the puzzles were, why they did this, and what that artifact did. It’s really impressive. I mean, it is like a gigantic novel, even bigger than the Outlander novels, which is a lot to digest.”

God of War Creators Just Dropped an Update on What They’re Building Next

We still don’t know pretty much anything about the project, but it’s good to know that development is progressing smoothly.

It’s been mentioned that Amazon has ordered two seasons of the God of War TV show, so at the very least, gamers will (maybe) see 20 episodes play out. If each season represents a new game, then perhaps Season 2 will focus on Ragnarok and that’ll be it?

Santa Monica Studio has not announced a God of War game, andthe rumored in-development entryin the franchise is something that’s ill-suited to be part of the series' plot.

In related news about the TV show,Moore recently confirmed he tried playing the game but sucked at it,though not for lack of trying.
