When launched into early access,Palworld, the creature collecting “Pokémonwith guns,” earned massive recognition for the team at Pocketpair. Sadly, withNintendo’s looming lawsuit, despite their tremendous success, it hasn’t been an amazing time for the developers.
After hearing about Nintendo’s lawsuit against them,Pocketpair quickly respondedwith a statement indicating their plans to fight. Even though this case could take years to resolve, legaladvice suggestsit largely favors Pocketpair.

Who even greenlit these?!
Despite that,Palworldis still kicking strong with new updates and additions, such as the recentlaunch on PlayStation 5, boosting the recognition ofPalworldto further audiences.
So, ina recent interviewat Tokyo Game Show 2024 with our friends at TheGamer.com,the team at Pocketpair discussed what’s been up with Palworld, from the free-to-play allegations to the future content for Palworld and any other upcoming projects.

Palworld: A Team Effort
AlthoughPalworldsaw massive growth at launch, Pocketpair has clarified that the success was a team effort between the developers and fans. As Pocketpair said during the interview, “more than anything, though, we are grateful that players embraced this new experience.”
“Our focus on listening to feedback and growing alongside our community played a big part in [Palworld’s] success.”

This method of development has clearly worked for the team. Instead of causing menial upticks in growth, the focus on strengthening the community has allowed the game to have a constant player base, not one that comes and goes.
An example of this continual growth was the recentrelease on PS5, which they state was “part of our plans from the beginning.” Instead of an immediate PS5 release, they focused on strengthening the core experience so that the PS5 update would be more earned and less of a given.

Pocketpair said,“rather than focusing on sudden spikes in concurrent players, we value sustained support and the growth of our community.”

We’ve all been victims of it, as creating our own theories can make mundane stories seem grandiose.
This is all the more surprising when you realize that Pocketpair barely increased the size of its team. They explained that the team “remains flexible, and we continue to operate in a way that best suits each project’s needs.”

Regarding previousfree-to-play rumors, they stated, “We never envisionedPalworldas a live-service game because we wanted to provide a rich gameplay experience where players can enjoy the game at their own pace.”
While a free-to-play service allows for constant updates, Pocketpair was not keen on this model.Theyexplained how they “plan to support the game for a long time” with their own steady pace of updates and content, not at the pace of a free-to-play service.
The Future Of Pocketpair and Palworld
As suggested in an earlier statement, Pocketpair has hinted that their team has a few projects currently under development. While some of these will be futurePalworld updates, we’re also speculative about any future titles the team plans to make.
In the interview, the developers said,“we believe the world ofPalworldholds many possibilities. While we can’t share specific details at the moment, we are always exploring ideas to further expand this universe in different genres and approaches.”
Even though this immediately suggests apossible sequel, they responded by saying that they “haven’t made any plans for a sequel” just yet, but if they do, it’ll be a full experience that further develops the world ofPalworld.

Now, in collaboration with Sony Music, Pocketpair has created a conglomerate calledPalworld Entertainment, Inc., which, funny enough, is similar toPokémon’smedia outreach. This will spread thePalworldIP into new territories, such as potential TV shows and merchandise.
Pocketpair stated they are “interested in the possibility of an anime adaptation,” meaning a futurePalworldanime is not off the table.
While Pocketpair’s road ahead is vast with opportunity, it is also filled with time and room to grow. We only hope the Nintendo lawsuit becomes a small blip in Pocketpair’s wide range of success, not a substantial roadblock.
