This week’sHouse of the Dragonfinally put into action the moment all fans had been waiting for. The series chronicles the infamous Civil War between the Targaryen factions called the ‘Dance of the Dragons’ and this week’s episode gave a rousing sequence that sets the stage for what is to come in the rest of the season and the show.

Eve Best plays Rhaenys Targaryen in House of the Dragon

After the events of the Battle of Rook’s Rest, the episode 5 promo of the show hints that Team Green led by the Hightowers will hit an all-time low. A glimpse of the slain dragon Meleys being paraded around the street is causing outrage among fans, proving that the show wants to position Rhaenyra as the protagonist.

House of the Dragon’s Episode 5 Promo Shows The Results Of The Rook’s Rest Battle

The fourth episode ofHouse of the Dragonsaw the two Targaryen factions engage in battle for the first time on the field. While Aemond and Aegon show up to Rook’s rest with their respective dragons, they are greeted by Rhaenys’ dragon Meleys and the three engage in a fierce battle.

House of the Dragon: Rhaenys Targaryen’s Most Unsettling Prediction From Season 1 is Slowly Coming True in Season 2

While the battle causes much destruction, including Aegon being injured, the ending seems to indicate that Rhaenys has been killed during the fight. Anew promo of next week’s episodeconfirms that her dragon Meleys has been slain in the battle. Team Green seems to be parading the head of Meleys in King’s Landing, praising King Aegon as a dragonslayer.

This move has not been taken well by fans ofHouse of the Dragonas the Targaryens have always been known for their respect for the dragons. They know that their claim to power is their control over the beasts, who are said to be indestructible. Showing a slain dragon might bite the Team Green Targaryens themselves as they might lose their hold on other nobles.

mind you not even Maegor The Cruel disrespected dragons like that they are pride and strength of House Targaryen that’s why all of Team Green are nasty Hightowers at the end of the daypic.twitter.com/d81qa11XMq

The move has been criticized by fans who seem to not include Team Green as true Targaryens as many of the members are Hightowers who have joined the family through marriage.

Fans Come To Otto Hightower’s Defence Despite Terrible Decisions From Team Green

Many fans have been blaming the Hightowers for being dishonorable warriors in the Dance of the Dragons. Two of the most hated characters in the show, which includes Ser Criston Cole and Otto Hightower, seem to be on Team Green and the latest events do not do them any favors.

The show’s loyalty to Rhaenyra Targaryen increases with each passing episode as the fourth episode showed a significant loss to Team Black’s side with the death ofEve Best’sRhaenys and her dragon Meleys. The upcoming episode shows the Hightowers parading around Meleys’ head on the streets of King’s Landing.

Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower

“Women can be just as violent as men”: ‘House of the Dragon’ Repeatedly Using One Trope That Game of Thrones Avoided is a Huge Disservice to George R.R. Martin’s Work

While the Hightowers are established as scheming and hungry for power, fans seem to defend Otto Hightower and believe that even he would not stoop so low. Otto seems to be well aware of the fact that the dragons’ indestructibility and the Targaryens’ power over them is what gives them the throne.

Idk if Otto would’ve done this. This was a Cole and maybe Aemond move. So thirsty for power they missed the plot

otto would have shut this down, it’s just a mess

definitely a cole move. steadily counting his last days..

when he downed aegon the heir, he didnt do that to him. the fact that maegor understood how dragons should be respected — A MAN AS CRUEL AS HIM still had decorum to understand that dragons are their power and humiliating it is a humiliation to the hosue. the greens fumbled HARD.

Whether Team Green will have a redemption arc in the coming episodes is yet to be seen as ever since the Blood and Cheese sequence, they seem to only have been on the wrong end of the Civil War.

House of the Dragonis available to stream on Max.
