The Egghead Island arc is reaching its climax with Monkey D. Luffy having to take on the Gorosei. He had some help from the giants, Dorry and Broggy, with more help incoming in the form of the Iron Giant. The Iron Giant has been one of the greatest mysteries since the Straw Hats landed on Dr. Vegapunk’s island.

The Iron Giant was revealed to have attacked the Mariejois 200 years ago. But was unable to move at the present day due to lacking energy. Hearing Luffy’s heartbeat in Gear 5 form, the mecha-warrior’s eyes glittered. After experiencing it, the fans have devised a new fan theory surrounding the giant and how Eiichiro Oda used the simplest trick to hide its origin from theOne Piecefandom.

The Iron Giant’s Origin Explored

One Piece’s Iron Giant might be a direct reference to the film The Iron Giant. Eiichiro Oda always mentioned that he is a massive fan of film, so it is not a surprise for anime fans to see him getting inspired by the film. In both scenarios, the mecha-warriors almost look the same. In the movie, the giant came from outer space and lost his memories after he fell on his head. Instead of being a symbol of nuclear warfare, he forgot all his missions and tried to save the Earth.

He befriended people and tried to end the nuclear wars and put an end to the Cold War. It matches the premise ofOne Piece, which features the World Government starting the war and wishing to stop it. As for the outer space theory,One Piecefeatured a cover story series based on Enel, and it was named Enel’s Great Space Mission. In that story, he traveled to the moon to find a technologically advanced city, most likely from the Void Century.

There were several automata lined up in chambers, but they all lacked energy. So, he used his Devil Fruit power to charge them all up and form an army. The city resembled Karakuri Island, which is Dr. Vegapunk’s hometown. These towns are considered to be technologically advanced, but they were built during the Void Century and the techniques of the modern day. It might so happen that the Iron Giant may have landed on Earth from the Moon after Enel charged him.

Why Did The Iron Giant Attack Mariejois?

One of the biggest problems in the world of One Piece is the Celestial Dragons enjoying all the benefits and resources while the common people have barely anything. Dr. Vegapunk always dreamed of creating a place where energy was abundant for everyone to enjoy. Unfortunately, there were not enough funds to complete the project. In the same way, the Blue All might have been full of resources, and theGoroseihave made it disappear.

To take back the resources from the Celestial Dragons, the Iron Giant might have attacked Mariejois. It was getting powered up by Monkey D. Luffy’s heartbeat in Gear 5, which could mean that music is the ultimate form of resource. When Luffy began his journey, one of his main priorities was to recruit a musician. Even Soul King used his voice to influence others, and Bink’s Sake is a song that unites everyone.

Enel’s Great Space Mission

Monkey D. Luffy also has a history with Uta, who is a singer. Hope and will is a powerful weapon. They lead to the creation of the Devil Fruits. The Fishmen who were seen as slaves for centuries, were suddenly treated with respect. It is because they always hoped Nika could come and save them. The Celestial Dragon knew the true extent of hope, so to put an end to it, they allowed the Fishmen on the surface of the sea.

The Iron Giant wanted to return the Celestial Dragons the treatment they had incurred on the common people. But it lacked proper energy soul. It gets powered up by the rhythm of the soul, which is another form of music. Nika’s heartbeat sounds like the Drums of Liberation. So, as a warrior of liberation, the Iron Giant is currently being powered up by the Drums of Liberation.

But it is still a fan theory. One Piecefans often bring up theories that are too difficult to ignore. Even thoughEiichiro Odawould find it interesting once he gives it a chance. But he is yet to confirm it for the theory to become official. Until it happens, it will remain a brilliant theorization ofOne Piece’s Iron Giant.
