Godoy’s not enthusiastic about fancy acting methods, but rather, in the wake of going for Netflix’sOne Piece, where he plays Luffy, he thought, Why not have my own ocean experience? So off he went for 80 days, cruising the Caribbean with his team.
He learned a wide range of stuff, like cooking and exploring using old-school techniques like compasses and star maps. He had to deal with an insane climate; however, he also got to see a few beautiful dawns and rainbows.

And what’s more, he even took care of business cleaning some“most horrendous”stuff with seawater. Talking about it later, he even joked about not being terrified of cleaning anything now. It turns out that it’s one of a handful of the skills from his ocean days that stuck with him back on land.
In an interview withTeenvogue, the actor discussed experiencing life to the fullest. He disclosed,

“I can say that I am not afraid of cleaning anything now. I know that for a fact. I had to go in those bilges, man, and I had to really scrub.”
Further, he added,

“I understand that we only get one life and I really want to experience as much of it as I can. That’s also why I want to be a storyteller because it’s a way that makes sense for me to experience life.”

The show, featuring Godoy as Luffy, Mackenyu as Zoro, and Emily Rudd as Nami, hit Netflix last year and got approval from critics and fans for sticking close to the manga.

Jobst disclosed in the interview withDigital Spyabout the difficulties of filming and what the actors went through to nail their roles.
Turns out, Godoy put in some serious sweat before hitting the screen as Luffy. Jobst said,
“With Iñaki, we did a lot of gym work. We did a lot of acrobatic work. We would rehearse in the morning, me and the cast, and we would play games, and we would laugh…And we did a bit of community work so that, you know, we were giving back to the community in South Africa, and would bond the family together.”
Every day of filming was jam-packed for theOne Piececrew. They’d begin with practices, associate with each other, do some charity work, and then hit the gym and do stunt training.
However, Godoy ensured he was prepared to bring Luffy’s strength and agility to life, exploring every possibility in his planning.
