One Pieceanime and manga are worlds apart in quality. Out of the thousand episodes, Toei Animation has hit it out of the park with a few of them and their spectacular animation. As for the rest, the anime fumbles quite a lot. From horrible pacing to altering character appearances, the anime has a lot of discrepancies which makes it fall behind in comparison to the manga. Yet the biggest crime is tweaking the cannon storyline and rules.

Usopp and Chopper look up at Big Mom who is chasing them in One Piece anime

With one scene, the anime broke a prominent rule of the series. These mistakes didn’t go unnoticed but fans are so used to theOne Pieceanime not reaching the standards, they let it go. However, if we had to list the animation studios’ silliest and most shocking mistakes, there’s no way this moment with the Kin’emon scene is not making it up there.

Toei Animation Breaks Canon Rules

During the raid in Wano, Kin’emon, and the others were on their way to the decided positions. While they were rushing, they saw Big Mom’s shadow and instantly scrambled to hide. We see the characters jumping into the water and Kin’emon clings to a pillar. Right after this episode, we see a chase where Kin’emon and the others are running from Big Mom. At that time Kin’emon jumps into the water and stays there, and that’s where the problem started.

Kin’emon has the Fuku Fuku no Mi and we have seen him using it many times. As a Devil Fruit user, he shouldn’t be so comfortable in water bodies. Moreover, we have seen how Luffy and Chopper had to be instantly taken out of the sea by their crew members, every time this happened to them. So when there was no rush to get Kin’emon out of the water, it sparked questions, as it’s clearly a mistake.

Given how they had executed it correctly in the previous episode, it highlights their ignorance even more. The anime also took an independent turn as the manga followed the rules as per usual. Kin’emon was seen wheezing and heavily breathingin the mangawhich makes much more sense. What’s more interesting is that this wasn’t the only evident flaw in Wano, let alone the plethora of them throughout the series.

That Wasn’t the Only Time Toei Messed up

There was an even worse blunder than the Kin’emon mishap. In Kin’emon’s defense, water doesn’t completely restrain Devil Fruit users, just weakens them, making it harder for them to move around. They usually run out of energy and strength, so Kin’emon might have pulled out every ounce of strength he had to get out of the water. But how can one explain whathappened with Prometheus?

Big Mom’s Prometheus was able to get in and outside of water, which doesn’t make sense as he’s the sun. He shouldn’t be able to be near the water, or it should immediately evaporate. The same scene also shows how Big Mom completely surrendered to the water as well. In the same episode, they defied and confirmed the rules set byEiichiro Odafor Devil Fruit users.

It would have made sense if this was a rare occurrence, but Toei Animation has ruined the anime in numerous ways. Beyond these little flaws, Toei Animation is also responsible for the horrible pacing that makes the anime unwatchable. When one reminisces about these blunders, the recent anime break seems like a blessing in disguise. Hopefully, the break will change the anime for the better.
