Helldivers 2has found itself at the center of yet another controversy. If weapons nerfs and gameplay changes weren’t enough for gamers to be upset about, then the latest change coming to the game certainly could be.
In a recent update from Arrowhead Game Studios, it was revealed that players on PC will need to link their Steam accounts with a PlayStation account if they wish to continue playing the game. This has upset many people.
Helldivers 2Makes Another Change and Fans Are Not Happy
The change seemingly comes directly from Sony, which has requested it as part of its efforts to quell security threats to its users. This makes sense as Sony is no stranger to hacks and data leaks; we all remember the infamous Sony hack way back in 2014. Many Steam users feel blindsided by this change, which has been the cause of much of the anger, which is being directed as usual at Johan Pilestedt, CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios.

Sharing stats on Twitter/X, user Daniel Ahmad pointed out that it seemsHelldivers 2is gaining thousands ofnegativereviews thanks to this new development. But do players have a reasonable reason to be upset about this? Twitter/X users took to the comments to argue for and against the change, with many pointing out that it is not really that big of an issue.

David Ahmad made the point that a change like this, months into a game’s life cycle, is out of the ordinary and that is cause for concern. However, many users pointed out that it has been in terms of service since day one. It was even mentioned in Arrowhead’s original post that the requirement was disabled while the game’s server issues were being worked on over the last few months.
Now that those issues have mostly been resolved, it has been reactivated. Others pointed out that it is a common requirement in basically all online games, such asCall of Dutyand the recent PlayStation portSea of Thieves,coming over from Xbox and PC.
There is Some Actual Cause to be Upset
A genuine issue here is that some regions don’t allow the creation of PlayStation accounts, which means this does negatively impact those people. We can only hope that Sony addresses this particular issue soon with a solution that benefits those actually affected by the change.

Helldivers 2has had many shakeups lately,mostly centered around the balance changesthat are being made regularly to hopefully improve the experience and get players ready for the new content that is supposed to be on the way.
With it being one of the most successful games of 2024, it is somewhat understandable that certain players will have kneejerk reactions, get angry about the game, and make a fuss where one might not need to be made, but what do you think?
