TheHome Alonefilms have been cult-classic holiday films since the first one was released in 1990. Ingraining itself into popular culture and being referenced time and time again in the years since its release, fans have watched the film more times than they can count.

With this, it is only natural that many theories have arisen over the years. While some believe that Kevin’s mom made a deal with the devil, who was as disgusted as Gus, others think that his father actually hates him.
However, one of the most constantly talked about theories involved the professions of Kevin’s parents. Thankfully, fans have finally gotten their answers, and they do not seem to be as sinister as they hoped them to be.

OneHome Alonetheory has more credibility than it should
One of the most notable and memorable aspects of theHome Alonefranchise is that it is grand. Part of the reason for this is the evident wealth that the McCallister family possesses, owning a big house in a high-class neighborhood. They are also a very big family, and none of the children seem to be neglected when it comes to their wants, with the entire family even going to France in the second film.
With this, many have wondered about the professions of Kate and Peter McCallister and how they are able to afford such luxuries. Some onRedditjumped to a very big conclusion, believing that Peter is, in fact, a mob boss and that is why they are so well off. While one could easily dismiss such a theory, it has quite a lot of evidence to back itself.

Starting off, when Harry shows up at the McCallister residence disguised as a cop, Peter’s first reaction is quite peculiar. Instead of being concerned about their presence in the house or wondering why they were there, he simply asked if he was being put under arrest as if he was expecting them to eventually show up.
Additionally, Uncle Frank is an extremely violent and threatening person who shares a lot of traits with one of Kevin’s brothers, who is a borderline sadist. Keeping these tendencies in mind, many have been sure that Peter is actually into organized crime.

Chris Columbus debunks belovedHome Alonefan theory
Fans have built quite an excellent theory surrounding Peter McCallister’s profession. However,Chris Columbusrecently gave an interview withThe Hollywood Reporter, where he unfortunately completely debunked their efforts. The director of the beloved film revealed the professions of the two parents, and the answer is disappointingly mundane.
Starting off, he revealed that Kate McCallister works in the fashion industry as a designer. While fans would not be surprised by this answer, it was what Columbus said about Peter that broke hearts and imaginations. He revealed that he does not remember exactly what Peter does, but it does have something to do with advertising.

[The mom] was a very successful fashion designer. The father could have worked in advertising, but I don’t remember what the father did. Not organized crime.

The director then seemed to have made a nod to the fan theory, stating that he does not remember it being anything related to organized crime. It is safe to say that working in advertising is very far away from being a mob boss in the most tragic ways possible.
