These days Marvel has been doing a pretty poor job of making films, before 2019 the franchise was a powerhouse, constantly delivering cinematic entertainment, with smash-hit box office records; all along with narrating a captivating superhero tale. However, the franchise has faced a steady decline in its popularity because afterAvengers: Endgame, only a few films have marked a lasting impact in the minds of its viewers.

Batman and Catwoman in Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One

Nevertheless, the franchise should learn from their rivals, DC as Butch Lukic, the producer ofBatman: The Long Halloweenshares how they all agreed to come up with the idea of adapting the storyline ofThe Long Halloween. The film was a massive success, featuring Jensen Ackles lending as the voice behind Bruce Wayne/ Batman in the fan-favorite animated film.

Butch Lukic on How He Came Up WithBatman: The Long Halloween

Batman: The Long Halloweenis a captivating and thrilling animated film that offers its dedicated fandom a nuanced exploration of Gotham City. The city looks as if it has been adapted directly from the comic book by Jep Loeb and it remains one of the most faithful adapted works that has remained true to its source material. HavingJensen Acklesin the lead role added to the film’s popularity.

Butch Lukic, the Supervising Producer of the film, shares how he has been a huge fan ofThe Long Halloweencomic books. He revealed how he used to wait patiently each month for a new issue of the storyline. During an exclusive interview withComicBookMovie.com, he was asked why he felt now was the“right time to adapt it?”

The producer answered,

“Initially, no one else had really wanted to do it. We had a meeting about what the next DC Animated Universe stuff we’d be working on story and concept-wise, and home video had a list of what they thought would be the best adaptations. Number one was The Long Halloween, so I just said, ‘Great, let’s do that!’”

“[Laughs] I read the comic when it came out. I used to buy it every month. I knew the story and I knew how sections of it were taken and used for other things, but felt, ‘You know what? No one has done a true version, so why not?’”

The executives of MCU should take notes from their rivals on how having a comic book fan on their team is an advantage as it will lead to creating a source material-true film that will resonate positively among the dedicated fandom of the franchise.

Marvel Producer Lets Out a Massive Secret from the Studios

Ever since the release ofAvengers: Endgame, Marvel is not the same anymore, as during Phase 4 none of their films were praise-worthy. Fans notably complained how the films were not comic book-accurate.

A still from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of MadnessWhile appearing on The Ringer’sThe Town With Matthew Bellonipodcast,Nate Moore, Marvel Studio’s producer shared how he believes that writers who are comic book fans are a massive “red flag”for him, as he has his own beliefs. He said,

Joker in Batman: The Long Halloween

“A lot of times, we’re pitched writers who love Marvel. And to me, that’s always a red flag. Because I go, ‘Oh, I don’t want you to already have a pre-existing idea of what it is, because you grew up with Issue 15 and that’s what you want to recreate…’ I want somebody who’s hard on the material, who goes, ‘What is this? I think there’s a movie here, but maybe we should be looking at it in this way.'”

As absurd as this sounds to the fans, Moore and his team prefer to have writers spin around the comic books to come up with something new and fresh out of them. Clearly, this concept is not working for the superhero franchise, as fans simply do not seem satisfied with the final product. There is little doubt that Marvel is under risk of losing its credibility if the trend continues.
