DualShockers recently had the opportunity to sit down with Gareth Damian Martin, creator of one of last year’s biggest indie hits,Citizen Sleeper.
During the interview, Martin touched upon their future plans for the Citizen Sleeper universe, revealing that something new might be coming our way “sooner than people may think.”
Martin revealed, “As far as Citizen Sleeper as a wider structure is concerned, Citizen Sleeper 1 was kind of a test or Citizen Sleeper is kind of a test for me, and I continued it with the DLC. Seeing as the DLC has been recently successful and the game is successful and people are very interested, I’m interested in continuing this series of experiments. We’ll be talking about it sooner than people may think.”

Martin continued, speaking about their excitement at continuing to carve out the game’s universe.
“When I sat down to make Citizen Sleeper, I was thinking in the back of my mind, ‘I’m going to make this experiment but also I’m going to make it in a way that it’s about things that I’d be happy to spend years and way longer, I’d be happy to spend a decade working in that world. So, that’s kind of baked and seeing as though people have given me a virtual thumbs up so far, I’m going to continue until I maybe get a virtual thumbs down or until I run out of things to say.”
Martin admitted that they became emotional while writing the ending of the DLC, saying “When I came to write that final ending, it was really emotional to write. And also, I was so glad in the back of my mind that I could be like, ‘this is not the end’. Because I really feel like I have so much stuff I want to explore, I want this to be a world I’m interested in exploring for a long time.”
When asked whether a new Citizen Sleeper would be their next project, Martin responded by saying that they have multiple projects in the works simultaneously, but confirmed that “There are more projects being cooked in the Citizen Sleeper cooker.”
Citizen Sleeper will release its final episode, Purge, on March 30, concluding the game’s story. Our full interview with Martin will be available in the near future.
