Yesterday, NetEaseannounced a few significant changescoming to Marvel Rivals’Competitive mode when the mid-season patch hits on February 21.
One of these decisions is to reset player ranks at the mid-season point, which proved to be very. very unpopular with players. It proved so unpopular that NetEase immediately had to announce a pullback on the decision less than 24 hours after announcing the proposed change.

NetEase Reverses Marvel Rivals Rank Reset Plans
The new announcement byNetEasementions that the studio received a “wealth of feedback from the community,” with the major concern being the “pressure” of having a rank reset every mid-season. In light of this, the developers have decided to make adjustments to “optimize” the rank system.
NetEase states, “When the second half of the season begins,there will be no rank reset. Players will retain their ranks and scores from the end of the first half. To earn new rewards, players simply need to complete 10 matches in Competitive mode and meet the relevant conditions by the end of the season. Rewards will include a new Gold rank costume and a variety of Crests of Honor, featuring distinct designs for Grandmaster, Celestial, Eternity, and One Above All.”
In short, the planned mid-season rank reset will no longer happen, and the rewards will still be given out and refreshed eery half season. This means double the free cosmetics, with no downside.

This is definitely a step in the right direction for the studio and it proved that they listen to the community first, even if it’s not related to microtransactions and revenue.
The mid-season patch for Season 1 drops on February 21, and it will introduce The Thing (Vanguard) and Human Torch (Duelist) as new heroes added to the roster for free. Alongside that, expect bug fixes, new cosmetics, and possibly new hero adjustments to be part of the patch download.
Aside from the two new characters,a datamine revealsthat members of the X-Men could be joining the cast at some point soon.
