A premium controller often comes with a high price point, and the main way to determine whether a controller is worth it is how often it’s used. For theNacon Revolution X Unlimited, there’s a big price attached to the controller, but for someone invested in playing for long hours and across many genres of games, it’s a worthwhile investment.
The Nacon Revolution X Unlimited can be used with PC and Xbox systems. It can be used as a wired controller on all platforms, has Bluetooth connectivity on PC, and can be connected to both using a USB dongle. All three options can easily be switched with a lever on the back.

What differs this controller from similar premium options is its screen. The Nacon Revolution X Unlimited has an LCD screen with options that can be accessed with the press of a button, switching the current controller layout for one that uses its options.
That might seem like a small thing for the cost, as the controller currently retails for around $200 USD. Any accessory has to be very good at its job to justify that expense.

With no shortage of controller options on the market, the Nacon Revolution X Unlimited has to impress straight out of the box.
What’s In The Box?
The entire Nacon Revolution X Unlimited set comes with the controller, a set of weights and replacement parts, a charging stand, a carry case, a USB wire, a cleaning cloth, a USB dongle, and a one-month trial sub code forXbox Game Pass Ultimate.
All of the items are top quality, with spaces included in the carry case to fit in all of the other pieces, for those who game on the go. There’s also a gel covering for the charging stand that’s easy to apply when it’s not in use.

One of the best aspects of the Nacon Revolution X Unlimited is the swappable joysticks and D-pad. These come in their own little case, and include six weights, six replacement joystick heads, and an extra D-pad.
These are all extremely easy to switch out, with all the components easy to snap off and replace as needed. The weights go into the back of either side of the controller, via a lid that’s easy to slide on and off.

But What About The Controller Itself?
The extras are all fine and good, but they’re meaningless if thecontroller itself is garbage. Fortunately, that’s not the case with the Nacon Revolution X Unlimited, as it’s a fantastic piece of kit.
The Hall Effect sticks feel tremendous to use, especially when equipped with a decent joystick head. Obviously, everyone’s preferences will be different, but I prefer the chunkier, non-concave head, as the extra size makes it easier for me to grip onto or nudge. The other two types of head are the same as the ones seen on regular joysticks, except one is concave and the other is flat.

The Hall Effect sticks are also meant to eliminate drifting completely. Unfortunately, this couldn’t be put to the test in the short time I had for the review.
The weights also feel amazing, but this is another aspect of the controller that will vary greatly from person to person. For me, the heavier weights give the controller more of a presence in my hands and are overall just a lot more comfortable to play.
The replaceable D-Pad is the standard cross-shape, dating all the way back to the 8-bit era. The one that comes attached to the controller is a clickable circle with a D-Pad built-in. Why anyone would want to use the retro design over the modern one is beyond me. Maybe their thumbsweren’t damaged enoughby the SNES Classic Edition? Whatever the case, the attached D-Pad feels incredibly responsive and is pleasant to the touch.
Nintendo GameCube Controllers Will Work On Switch 2
Nintendo has confirmed that the existing GameCube controllers that are on the market are still compatible with the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
The shoulder buttons on the Nacon Revolution X Unlimited have lock levers. When pressed, these reduce the amount of pressure needed to get a response. The difference might seem insignificant to an outside observer, but to the person playing, it can be hard to go back to regular shoulder buttons.
The controller has four back buttons, all within easy reach of the user’s middle finger while playing. These are very responsive, but it’s really easy to accidentally hit the higher set of buttons when panicking while playing, so it’s worth disabling them in high-pressure games.
The rumble feature in the controller is really strong, and while it lacks thepreciseness of the PS5’s DualSense, it still has a prominent kick that feels great, especially with racing games.
In terms of power, when not connected by wire, you’re able to expect 8-10 hours of charge. This isn’t as long as other options on the market, which might be why it comes with a charging stand, as it’s going to be sitting on it a lot.
Building The Perfect Profile
The Nacon Revolution X Unlimited has its own dedicated app, where the user can setup different profiles with a variety of controller options. These can be switched on the fly by hitting a button on the back of the controller.
On the surface, this might seem like a small feature, but anyone who enjoys playing a variety of games will feel the difference instantly. For example, it’s possible to set up a more sensitive right stick for shooters, then switch to something less precise for a racing game.
Someone with Xbox or PC Game Pass, who switches between games on throughout a lengthy session will love this feature. People who like bringing their fancy controllers to a friend’s house will also find the profiles extremely useful, as it’s all built into the controller.
The Nacon Revolution X Unlimited has a built-in LCD screen that can be accessed with its own button. This brings up dedicated menus that allow you to tinker with the audio settings of your connected headset, remap buttons on the fly, and connect via Bluetooth via the controller itself.
These options are nice, but not necessarily game-changing for the everyday person. Having them easily to hand does mean you don’t have to rely on outside resources to make changes that are needed. Remapping controls would usually require the app on PC, and you likely wouldn’t have access to it if you were taking the controller to a friend’s house or playing at a competitive event.
However, this is a controller intended for people who play games seriously and a lot. Chances are, these customization features would be more relevant to someone who plays on the go. The USB dongle is a huge help here, as it means you should be able to instantly connect without needing to mess around with pairing.
